In Europe the car mags are raving all over the 635d, a lot of testers are calling the diesel the best 6 series of the lot, it sure would be my pick.

Congrats on the new car CY. I just leased the 08 bmw 650i and i have to say it is a great car for its money, especially when it is in sports mode. I ended up getting alpine white/tan because the black/black that i was dealing on ended up having the fender dented therefore i didnt want that one. I am satisfied with the white, but i hate bmw tan interior. It is way to difficult to take care of. Congrats and hope you enjoy the car, i think it is much more fun to drive then the sl500.

I wish you the best with the BMW. My wife has a 2006 5 series and it is a pain in the a**. The car handles well but the I-drive is pathetic. Half the time the radio does not function properly and when I take it in for service they clear all of the settings (bluetooth phone numbers, etc.) so there is a dis-incentive to even take it in. The warranty is great because you don't have to pay for hardly anything. Once the lease is up I'm thinking of trying the Acura RL for her, much simpler car to operate.

6 v sl

I looked at a 6 with the sport package before buying the SL. Since I was coming from a CLK430 Cabriolet, I wanted to have a hardtop convertible.
I also had a corvette convertible as well as a 129 body SL and got tired of puting the hard top on and off. This SL is the best of both worlds. BTW, rarely used the back seat of the CLK, a great car though. You buy what looks good and feels good to YOU, providing you can afford it. Good luck with the 6!

I may be selling them soon...Ill put them up on here before Ebay. They have the 305 on the rear and are super deep dish!!! Exact offset for the SL.

Yeah 22's would be cool but I would prefer 21's.....would you also lower it with 22's?

I sure wish they would bring all these cool engines over here...I guess we are just known to consume large amounts of everything and they know we will buy the V8.

Congrats on your new ride as well. As I said before I love the Alpine white on the 6. I also agree about the great driving experience in sport mode....the SL is incredible as well in its own way; they are just different animals. You have enough cars so Im sure the tan will age alright.

The Idrive is crazy...but Im kinda into stuff like that. Ive always been into power accesories of that sort even if they are a pain to get used to.

Yeah if I had never had a R230 I would probably have bought an 08 or 09...but since Ive been there and done that the 6'er was my choice. CLK to SL is a serious upgrade.

Thanks for your considerate response. I defer to you on camparing a 2005 SL and a new 6. Enjoy your new ride.

What is difference between manual and SMG that would cause a $500 month difference?

What do you think about the interior of the 6 compared to the SL?

I was driving the family 650i again this morning and thought the SL is better designed and executed on the interior than the 6. For one thing, when you try to get in the backseats the front seat doesn't even move up to provide easier access. It's also a pain to put my seatbelt on after rear passenger enters the cabin, I think I pulled my shoulder alittle reaching for the belt. The center console is full of painted plastic in segments. I like the design of the cabin I just don't think the material and built are as well executed as the SL.

I dunno, I love the engine in the 650i, the tail lamp design, long hood, the handling and the ride, but there are somethings BMW overlooked in this beautiful machine. (for example - the trunk design :p)

Funny you mention the seatbelt. I have almost pulled a muscle it seems several times reaching for the seatbelt. Maybe it's the way I sit but I don't remember having issue in the CL with this, the seatbelt seems really far back in the SL. I thought maybe I was just getting older .

They were trying to move manuals at one point. Same with the M5.

I love the 6's interior. I have the dark grayish black wood and there is so much space...the SL is a great design too but I prefer sitting in the 6'er. Bottom line is I am going have the SL for quite a while and we'll see which I want to drive after I get used to the 6'er.

CY, I think you and I have a lot in common when it comes to our love of cars. I want to own all of the great cars before I die. You can't do that by drivng the same car to long I look forward to your report on the 6, since I almost bought a M6 when I was looking at my new SL550. The reason I bought another SL was because of the beauty of the SL and the fact that the new SL550 felt like a different car with the new engine and the fact that after building the SL for 5 years I think they finally got it right. Someday I do want to own a M6 since I have never owned a BMW and think the M6 and the 6 series cars are also good looking.

I was doing some lease pricing last night and there was one 2007 M6 coupe, black, that could be had for about $1k per month (with $3k down) for only 36 months. I would be all over that if I had my current car sold. I'm paying $1250/month now for my SL....I would actually be saving a good chunk of coin per month.

Get those pics up Cy.

I've had a 645 since 3/04 and I love the car. It's time for a new car and I'm thinking the same as you..it's time for a change. The new 6'er isn't that much different from the one I have and I'm a little tired of the idrive though I know it inside and out. If I got a new one, it might not feel that special, so I'm trying out the SL. The one thing I will really miss is the heated steering wheel! I live in the northeast and when it's cold, the heated steering wheel is fantastic. Mike
