03 SL500 remote problem

Basically my remote stopped working. Can't close the door, can't open the door, can't open the trunk, but when I press the remote, the little red light at the rear view miorros would blink, so the remote is not entirely dead, just not working right.

So what do you think is the problem? Battery in the remote? Battery in the car? Wiring issues? Thank you for any input.

is this the key less go card your talking about? i believe the 03's had a separate card and key

if its the key itself, will it start the car? if not i might just need reprogramming.

First check whether the other key works. If both keys stopped working, I'd suspect something in the car. If the other key still works, then the guesses would be 1) battery 2) key re-programming. Not sure if you can re-program or need the dealer - I had a new key reprogrammed by the dealer.

Thanks. This is the regular key (not keyless go). It WILL start the car no problem. I have been driving it lately using the metal key to get in and out.

That would be a great idea, except unfortunately, this is the only key I have...

ok it sounds like your battery in the key. also when you replace it make sure the 2 contacts next to the batt stick up.

im sure you already know but you have to get a second key in case of an emergency. i.e. your 1st key completely craps out

you can get that battery at radio shack. i believe its a cr2032

Sounds like a dead battery. However the key will start the car even with a dead battery.

I agree with the rest, I would try the battery key first. However, if the car can start with the key fob then it could be something else. The automatic door openers work on a vacuum pump that is located in the trunk. Can you unlock the trunk through the button inside the car? if you squeeze on the truck latch do you hear the actuator trying to open the trunk? is there an air leak?
Like I stated in the easiest thing to check is the battery, you can buy it at Lowes for less than $6.
