I'd love the renntech ones, just cant justify that much Cash for some axle back mufflers! No offense Hartmut/Bob Thanks in advance guys!

Any idea if the SL55 AMG exhaust fits? Maybe someone here on the forum upgraded their SL55 and you can snag their old exhaust?

The only thing I miss from my old SL55 over my SL600 is the exhaust note. Other than that the SL600 is worlds more refined.

A few of the guys on here are doing a muffler delete and swear by it. Search around in the SL55 section. Akedemiks and TheRicker are doing this on their SL600s. There's some vids up there and youtube for sound clips.

I removed the mufflers on mine + straight pipes + quad tips.

Nice, do you get any drone with the top up and windows closed while cruising?

Do hear some feedback to know that there is a V12 pushing you BUT nothing major.

It does sound very mean - much more than in the video clips. The sound of a V12 is very awesome to hear. Besides, since it did not cost me much at all to mod. - I can always put back the stock whenever.

Highly recommend the mod.

I removed my mufflers and it is a lot louder, especially at startup.

Why would you lose power deleting the muffler? I thought it was more for sound than to produce any measurable backpressure (yes, reducing backpressure could certainly cause a power loss)

How are you guys deleting the mufflers "so that they can be readded at any time"? Are you cutting them off or do they unbolt?

I guess the ideal situation would be to unbolt them at a flange, then weld up a straight pipe with a flange on one end and quad pipes on the other. Then just bolt on. Is this possible?

That is what I did. Cut off the mufflers. Add on pipes + quad tips (reverse later if needed to put back the OEMs).

The trick is to bend the pipes to fit into the existing muffler space.

You can hear the sounds here:
