Warranties--who and how much?
05 SL500, about a month left. Never done it before, but I like this car so much I might keep it for a while. Who do you guys have your extended warranties with, and about how much $$$? Good or bad experiences? I'm thinking more just basic coverage, but I'd like to hear what you guys have done. Thanks in advnace for your help.

try diamler/chrylser service contracts. i have 1 one my sl but have not used it yet since im still under factory warranty. you can only do it if your car is still under factory warranty.
also do a search. theres a lot of info already discussed on this!

Look into getting a good warranty provider. I got
http://www.themillenniumclub.net/?q=product/app
Platinum Coverage..covers vitually everything including
ABC System
Retractable Hardtop
Probably two of the most costliest items on an SL.
Look to pay $3000-4000 depending on the deductible you select.

Here is the problem guys: Many MB dealers don't take third party warranties that you do not get from them. So...in this case what do you do?
I have been looking into warranties, and it seems the warranty has to come from MB to be accepted. Correct me if I am wrong....

whats up bigben! if your dealers is telling you that i would beware. most after market warranty companies pay for the repair with a credit card so i don't see a problem. most of the after market warranties the dealership is gonna sell you are bloated in price.
i guess you have to do what works for you and your dealership. mike at diamler/chrysler gave me a great deal for full inclusive coverage(7/70 total$1750/$50 ded) and i was referred to him from other sl owners

I think maybe the best idea is...
to go to the store where you get your car repaired and ask them who they like, or what they sell. That way if something goes haywire, you can go back upfront and b--ch there for some results. My MB store gave me a list of providers they absolutely would not deal with, and said that most of the majors had been reasonable to deal with. (He gave special ups to Fidelity and Zurich--I know neither of them is perfect, but atl least they are legitimate.). Mainly, I just want to make sure that my car has a warranty on it when I pass it to the next guy.

MB will accept third party warranties, but only a select few. They want you to buy a MB from a dealer simply b/c it's CPO and they make alot of money of used deals. Actually if you talk any MB dealer in the USA, ask them about themillenniumclub automotive warranties, they will highly recommend them, because Millennium underwrite the warranties for the new SMART cars.
I am sure there are dozens if not hundreds of third party warranties which are virtually garbage, but do your research and then, make an informed decision.. MB expenses add up quickly especially on SLs.. make sure you get what's covered in writing or walk away.
good luck

I purchased a Daimler/Chrysler service contract for my 2003 SL55 earlier this year. My car was out of factory warranty when I bought it. I used it for the first time this week for a power trunk latch problem. My dealer said they were great to work with.

warranty
I bought a AAA warranty that mirrors the factory warranty for about $3K. It was an exclusionary warranty. AAA has alway treated me right.

i have an 03 sl55 and bought the 50k / 5 year warranty. what ever the top level one was. i also used the michael case guy for it.
all i can say is wow. I have only had the warranty for 3 months and so far i have had the car in the shop twice for a combined total of $6500 in claims.
They never batted an eye. They lived up to everything in the agreement and paid promptly and completely. Both dealerships have said they were completely suprised by how easy the warranty company was to deal with and how well everything was handled.
Cant go wrong with their warranty.
