Tinting the taillights on SL500
The place where I tinted my windows says they cannot tint the tail lights and side corner repetitors when I asked them to do so?
How do you guys tint them? I saw numerous pictures with what I wanted here in the picture thread of the member cars.

on ebay they run for about 600$, and it adds only middle smoked line, not the whole thing, i have silver SL500 with black brabus rims, so it would look better to have the whole thing tinted? do people just tint it from the inside or they spray them with black ink the same way?

04 SL 500, 09 R350, 09 E63, 2010 Prius
tint is on the outside, sprayed in layers with clear coat. pain in the *** to do but really nice when it comes out. I swapped out my SL500 tails for the SL55's and also tinted the 55's lights. Came out really nice. It's like a two tone tint.

Spray paint
There are a few way to do it. One way and the cheapest way is to go to a autozone or pepboys and pick up a can of nite shades. It comes in a small aerosol can. You spray it on in thin layers to your desired darkness. Once it dries it will look a tad dull. If you want the shine take it to a auto shop and tell them to put a layer or 2 or clear coat onto it. The other way is more expensive and how I think most people do it, take it to a auto shop or maybe even a custom audio shop and tell them you want them tinted.
On my old jetta I did the nite shades and it came out pretty good. i had it on for about 4 years/ 40k miles and no issues.

hey man . i got a new guy in my area that does it with some special stuff he says. he did his C300 i couldn't even tell it wasn't stock!!!! my will be done next week , I'll post some close up pics of it. you can either smoke the hole thing or just the SL55 style middle only !!!!!

hey man . i got a new guy in my area that does it with some special stuff he says. he did his C300 i couldn't even tell it wasn't stock!!!! my will be done next week , I'll post some close up pics of it. you can either smoke the hole thing or just the SL55 style middle only !!!!!

yeah, the film your talking about i believe it is tint overlay???
anyways, i tinted mine by simply bringing it to the tint shop and they put a layer about 5mm thick smoke color film. and the best thing about it is that this mod is not permanent, so you can rip it off when your done with it or when the police writes you a ticket for it....

i got my r230 tails tinted for about 75, but it also carries lifetime warranty (dont think i will be needing that anytime soon)...
but for my other cars with flat, not curvy, tail lights i just buy those tint overlay kit off ebay. it takes about 1 hour to put it on, and it does require patience and time to align and what not.

I just bought SMOKE the tint off Ebay, I'll be applying it Fri or Sat deff post up some pix when done. I already blk'd out the door handles/hood-fender FINS/& frnt grill.

it really looks almost stock !!!! picture don't justify how good it looks. he use some special vinyl overlay , also stretchable. amazing stuff man . u can't even tell is there and it simply won't come off unless u grab a razor and dig to pill it off .

i found one website (http://www.rvinyl.com) where i am going to order a sheet and then give it to my tint shop to install it for me. is 24 by 24 inch sheet enough for two tail lights? if I want to tint it all?

HONESTLY I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GET IT, THE GUY WHO DID MINE GETS IT, HE CAN MAIL YOU A PRECUT READY FOR INSTALL . LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT HE'S CELL # I EVEN GOT MY YELLOW MARKERS DONE BUT I REMOVED IT .!!!!! BEST PART LIGHTS GO TRUE IT JUST LIKE FACTORY STUFF

you should order clear side markers first and then smoke them, i bought mine off ebay for 49 now they are 42 from the same guy, bad economy is affecting even such tiny stuff
