Standard or Winter Mode question!!

Hello everyone. I just noticed in my manual that my SL55 aside from having Manual mode and being able to use the paddles there is a Winter and Standard mode. What is the difference between the two? Not sure which one i should be using.

Which provides a more spirited drive and which will help me more on MPG?

Thank you.

S gives you a 1st gear start, and W is a second gear start, the ratio of the changes are higher in the S mode.

W or S in reverse will give you 2 different ratio's.

In W the is a Sprag clutch,, this means that in W the car cannot roll back on a hill.

It is easier to drive the car in town in W as there is less chance of spinning the rear wheels in the wet.

Hope this helps

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Use

s mode unless you are in a lack of traction area snow ice mud etc.
Best mpg is attained by letting the torque multiplication of the transmission do its proper job.Move all the mass of the car off the line in 1st and progress up to the higher gearing.Driving around in W just produces more strain on the engine and is to be avoided. You know the feeling when you get on a 15 speed bike and try tp pedal off in 10th gear

Interesting information ohlord. Thank you. I will leave it in S mode and switch it to M mode when I feel spirited

Sorry I have to disagree on the strain bit,,there is no strain on any thing, the torque converter takes car of that, and all auto's have had the feature since near on day one, if you are in W you can still kick down into 1st if you wish to get out of trouble.

Using W on icy roads or in town is great,it stops you from getting through the rear tires so quickly

I heard cars' suspension got messed up, so it was not levelled properly after their winter storage...

1 month shouldn't be a problem at all !!!!!! you might find a dead battery that's all , but i don't think you will unless you have a old battery .
