There's very little that you CAN'T do to a car. There's nothing magical about these doors, they are similar to the doors on the SLR vision. All you need to do is remove the old hinges, add "joints" and gas-shocks. You may also need to re-position the door catches.

The only thing that I would be worried about is how the door "modifications" handle in a serious accident. Surely, Kleeman engineers don't follow the guidelines and safety measures that MB does. Also, once you go this far, you can forget about selling the car to a dealer.

The question is......Is it really worth $20k?

20K$ is a lotta moolaah.. but, i guess if you got money to kleeman a R230 you probably might have some more

I would imagine its a bit more complex than that especially if they use the stock doors. Because the doors would have to slide outside first (ie a parallel shift out) and then rise up. If they used custom doors then the doors would need to be replaced plus more body paneling.

Its not lambo style doors that where designed to move up rather they where designed to move out in a hinged direction. Take a look at your current door and you will understand what I am talking about.

Hinges should be the only thing to worry about especially if they used the MB doors. Only part to be worried about then is did Kleemann lock the doors [i]properly]/i] into place so that the doors dont pop out when you have a head on.

It's very complex.

it doesn't move on a hinge, it's build so the the top hinge is a threated cylinder which makes the door pull out and clear the front wing and other body parts.
It's the OE doors, it's full remote electro/hydraulic controled, of cause the doors have a lash in the buttom and are full TÜV approved.

because you have an awesome point here.. i was wondering.. are yall for real when saying that this mod costs 20K$? That is extreme, if it were much loweri would show my dad in a couple days and see what he thinks of this. I'm pretty sure he'd like this. But, for that kind of money, there goes my car. :P

You can spend 20K to have your SL with wing doors, or you can spend a cool 1,500,000 and get the CLK-GTR with the same doors.

They are just doors, hardly anyone is going to see them in action unless you go out of your way to make a scene. I can see spending 20K on making a coupe into a SL convertable, but to spend this kind of cheese just for a different way to accomplish a mundane task is pointless.

BTW, the car will be hard to get rid of once those mods are done. In fact, you may even void your warranty. Do you still think it's worth it? I don't.

THAT SUMS IT UP RIGHT THERE.
If you have to worry about the money then maybe this forum isnt for you. To the person who got it, they believe the money is well worth it. If you think it isnt then maybe you just dont have it????????

ALso I thought other things were done to the car which totalled up to 20,000.

wow, nice doors though I think they are best suited for AMG versions (55 + 65) of the car.

i would go agianst that.. i'd personally have it straight up so that you can still park in regular one spot places.

i think the SLR can still fit in one parking spot, b/c the doors go out towards the other cars at the top. but then again ive never seen it live so i cant realy argue.
