SL600 straight-piped

Hey fellas, I have a SL600 which for now has dumped exhaust, the only other thing silencing the car is the cats which are tucked nicely by the turbos. Is it safe to remove those and have it completely straight-piped?

I heard I get another 10rwhp by removing the cats... anyone know? I would simply just replace the cats with a 3 inch pipe...

I don't think you'll get any lights but I think it could be hazardous. I'm not sure as I'm fairly new to MB's. I also don't think it's going to give you the power you're thinking it will.

I suggest you just to remove mufflers and make it straight, you'll get good sound.

Be Careful.

These cars are designed to run with a certain amount of back pressure. If you remove to much from the exhaust you will end up losing power.

Wrong, it's not a 500/550/55 it's 600 TT-V12 Turbo's love & need to breathe, the CL65 w/VRP mods runs 10.70's @ 131+mph right now w/No mufflers NO-cats Custom 3" straight pipe all the way thru to tips, among other mods Bigger CAI, new bigger Intercoolers, ECU etc...

I've done the Muffler delete as well (thanks to a couple guys on this board 1 being Maxabo & Akademiks) on my 600, I'll be going back to Exhaust shop, & going for a hybrid 200 cell cats w/custom downpipes all in huge 3" diameter, the 600/65 SL models come stock w/NO Resonators, running a 3" or even better 3.5" pipes & 200 cell-cats will net you a nice bump in rwhp.

From the tuners I've spoken w/EZ 30rwhp not including running the VRP CAI mod should free-up an other 20rwhp...Cheapest/best HP for the buck mods you'll ever see on the R230 V12-TT

No shizzz!!! If I wern't busy this week, I'd take my a$$ to the exhaust shop asap!

I went ahead not too long ago and just deleted the exhaust versus the dump exhaust, and its definitely louder now since it's not muffled by anything. Can't wait to get rid of those Cats. Exciting!

lol will post vids once that is done. Thanks Ricker, your my inspiration!

Question though, isn't going to be hard for the exhaust shop to get in there and take those (Cats) out, they're kind of tucked in there aren't they? And lastly, what are "200 cell-cats"?

I was just thinking of possibly upgrading (now that you mentioned it) to 3.5" diameter, all the way from turbos to tips with no "200 cell-cats". Thoughts...?

Post videos from the time you have stock, then only removing mufflers and then removing everything. It should be interesting to see the difference...

I take it you did this to yours? Can I override that light? And is it something I should be worried about?

Problem with that, I already have my exhaust off so I can't give you a stock video, but there should be one on you tube. I can do a more comprehensive video though of before and after the cat is removed once I get more into it. Just waiting on my car to get back from service right now...

Trudging along in a new C-Class rental for now...
