SL600 advice needed...
Hi all,
I've been out of the loop for a little while and now I'm back. I've posted many in the CL section and also kill stories. I sold my CL600 Renntech last year and now I'm itching for an SL. I've thought about the SL55 but I really want the torque and easier tuning ability of the 600. I might consider a 2005 SL65 if I can find one for a good price.
My question: should I avoid any specific year of the sl600? Or is there a year that I should focus on? I've been looking at 2005s and 2006s with less than 30,000 miles. I've seen a few nice 2004s but I like the larger navigation in the 2005+. Someone recently told me to go with the '06 but I'm not sure if he knows anything.
Also, I will definitely get the Renntech upgrade and wheels, which is another $10,000.

Conventional wisdom is the more recent model years are generally more reliable than the earlier model years but, no, there's no specific year that you need to avoid. Low miles and a clean maintenance history are obviously desirable and more important than the specific model year IMO.
You might also check out the VRP Intercooler upgrade: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...2-biturbo.html. MarkoCL65 has it in his car and it creates a lot of extra power.
Good luck with the decision! Let us know what you wind up buying!!

I have a 2007 SL600 and have had no problems with it. I like the fact that I can unzip and remove the roof guard from the trunk so I can carry 2 sets of golf clubs (you cannot put the top down with the guard out). I don't know if the 05/06 has that feature...my previous 2004 SL did not. The 2007 has the clear stripe on the tail light and 3 slats on the front grill. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the model years you are considering...the SL600 is an awesome machine. Good luck! TwinCam
