Audio problem

One day I was kinda confused and there was a cd in a single deck and I forgot and force to put another one and for some reason it got stuck and doesnt come out so I can not put my navi cd in it.
I brought it to MB dealer shop and what they told me was to change the deck for $6000. any recommenedation for good audio shop near davis or sacramento to take out my stuck cd?

No clue on Sac town audio shops but MB must be crazy to quote $6000 to change out the deck...Did they have an itemized quote on what that $6000 gives you?

I hope your problem gets resolved!

That's f***ed up! The least they could've done is said, "We're not an audio shop, but here are some in the area...."

I don't know if this will help you or not. My CD got stuck in my SL and it would not eject so I messed with it with my pen knife and I haven't had a problem since. I was told by a Mercedes tech that if you don't use them for a while this sometimes happens. He said to put it in and out a few times after you get it freed up and it should be as good as new. I messed with mine for about fifteen minutes before it finally freed up.

I had exactly this problem with my 2003 SL55 COMAND unit. After not using the CD drive for over a year, I popped in an audio CD. After listening to it for half an hour, I tried ejecting it. It wouldn't eject. The mechanism attempted to eject it but wouldn't function. So I brought it to my MB dealer.

They quoted a little under $4000 to replace the COMAND unit. Ended up costing $3440 for the part and $346.50 for the labor. Total cost for a new COMAND unit in a 2003 SL55: $3786.50 plus tax. It would probably be a little more expensive in a 2005-2008 R230.

What year is your SL, Junny?

Not for nothing...For that replacement cost for COMAND, I'd spend that money on an aftermarket system that has more features, better nav, and higher SQ...

You mean like the one you're installing right now?

Don't worry, the DaimlerChrysler extended warranty covered the COMAND replacement. The service tech told me that the unit with the malfunctioning CD eject would get sent back to MB and refurbished and resold for at least $3k, so at the end of the day it really only cost them about $800 to fix the CD drive on my COMAND head unit.

Still pretty darn expensive, but that's the way it is with Mercedes!

Personally, I hate my COMAND head unit. The navigation is especially horrible. I can't wait to replace it with a Kenwood DNX8120.

Hola,
Senor lawyer, please post info on installing the Kenwood DNX8120. I would like to replace my factory unit (yea it works fine) also.

Peace,
Garret

Before plunking a bunch of $$ on a new comand unit or aftermarket audio system, I suggest you do a google search on "how to remove a stuck CD from a car stereo." I checked, and it produces quite a few ideas worth trying.

I'd the same problem. It wouldn't eject as if the disc was hitting the facia, so I slid a sheet of paper in and it ejected over it. Worth a try.
