After seeing a video about removing the front left fender (thank God I was just zapping): does anyone know if you can reach the alarm horn after removing the side grill? That takes just two small bolts, as opposed to jacking up, remove wheel and arch well.
Can you tell me where this fuse box is located? Is it for the SL-55 AMG? I have been having this problem on and off for about 2 years. I no longer lock it at all because it is not reliable. Thank you for your help.

Fuse 25 in the box under the bonnet. Near the hinge of the bonnet on the driver’s side.
The lid has a sliding lock. Watch how the lid comes off and close it with due attention, you don’t want any water in there. Check for moist from condensation. There’s a SAM under the fuse array and water tends to work it’s way down, so...

Thank you very much. I hope it is the same on my vehicle. This is the fuse config I found for my year and model. Looks like your config pix is located in my trunk/boot? No fuses in the trunk. I found that configuration under the hood and pulled it. I 1st tried to make it go off and it wouldn't. It went off at 1300 this morning. Thank you for taking the time to answer. I hope it was the right one. Z

Oh! So sorry, you have an SLK? My fault. I intended to stipulatie that my answer related to a 2005 R230 (SL) but I forgot. Can’t help you with the SLK lay-out. You’d better raise your question on the SLK sub forum. Sorry again..
In the main fuse box you will see a row of fuses. Removing the 3rd fuse from the left should disable the alarm siren and nothing else. This is a 7.5-amp fuse.
the fuse is the #8 fuse in the trunk, but that also is the radio antenna booster so your radio will not work well

Repaired and ready for re-mount
Went overboard and painted the housing with Hammerite. Saw some surface colouring on it.
FWIW: cutting the siren housing in two is a bit of a delicate job. I mounted a long metal sawing blade in a vice. Pulled the housing across while rotating it slowly. At one point you’’ll notice the parts coming apart, or at least you’ll notice gaps appearing.
After the fix I glued the halves together and went overboard again with a coat of strong watertight kit.
