as soon as i lock doors, and walk away..i guess it takes 15sec. to activate them IT STARTS CHIRPn away..not all the time..never at home( i think as in underground in condo)..only 50% of the time in public..so random, then do it 3x or so then its ok.
can it be locked w/o alarm, or at least silent mode?..sensitivty adjusment?
i havent even looked to see if its the lights also, so quick to turn it off of embarassment.

May be easier to track down what is causing the alarm to activate.
Could be a faulty door/trunk/hood switch or just them being out of adjustment.
If not those you may want to pay the $tealer/indy to do a diagnosis on the alarm system.

Thx. That is a good suggestion. But until I have time I need to stop the noise and save my battery. Maybe I can pull a fuse. As it is I don't lock car when I park if it just goes off. You would think there is a way to make it silent, as so many people get towed with alarms that go off.
Also I have never seen a fault or anything saying alarm, or door, trunk. Which you would think would indicate that if enough to set off alarm, but it may be. I will double check. Thx for yr help

Ever figure out why the alarm was going off for no reason... After washing and detailing my car recently, i now have this problem. As soon as i lock the doors, it takes about 20 sec and the alarm will sound.
Its driving me crazy...
Thanks
Nick

Alarm Randomly going off
Above your head whilst in the drivers seat is your trip/fuel display. To test if it is your sensitivity for "towaway or broken glass" simply press the right hand (Opp to reset) button until "off" is displayed. You must do this within 15 seconds of switching your engine off. Once "off" is displayed you can then go and lock your doors. If this works then you know it is the glass break sensor that needs replacing. Pain in the proverbial I know.

There is no glass breakage sensor in the SL. There is a tow sensor, and it can be disabled by pressing the button located in the center console, below the gearshift lever.
One common problem with the ATA siren is that it dies. It's located under the fender liner, behind the front left wheel. Even with the liner in place, it can still get road salt and water in it that destroy it. Also, it has a built-in rechargeable battery that will eventually die and leak onto the circuitry.

Rudeney: On R230 cars ... does the tow sensor button turn red to signal that it's active and that the tow alarm system is "on duty," or does it turn red to signal that the tow alarm is deactivated?

Yes, I had an ML and remember issues with the glass breakage sensor. What year is yours? If it was built from April 2001 (so late MY2001 or MY2002), there was a known issue with the sensor and it needs to be replaced.

When you press the button, the red LED indicator illuminates and this means that the tow sensor is disabled. When the indicator LED is not illuminated, the sensor is enabled.

sl500 siren fuse
Thanks. Worked for me. I did not have to remove the siren, just the fuse, which was much easier. MB told me I needed a front SAM which was very costly, but removing the fuse fixed my problem and saved me lots of money. Now I can lock my doors with the smart key and no siren or flashing lights. Thanks again.

Can anyone tell me if this worked or works?I hate the alarm.

in the trunk the 15 fuse second from bottom is the alarm fuse. Pull out and it shuts it off. Will also make the phone(if you still have one connected in the car) beep for about 30 seconds when you start it or put key in but will then shut off.

I am trying to pull the fuse for my slk, but none of the fuses are named for the alarm, which one is it please?
