Just picked up a 2005 SL65 (to be delivered this week), but I had a few questions. Hopefully someone can answer these for me.

I've enclosed a pic of the radio and yes, it does have the DVD navigation. I was wondering if there was a way to integrate an iPod / iPhone to the existing radio allowing iPod control from the steering wheel?

Is the radio a Fiber system or just plain old copper?

Can I watch DVD movies via the DVD player (in the trunk) or wherever the DVD player is?

Does it have Bluetooth support for phones?

Can the CD player play MP3s?

Also, on another note.. What's the best Radar detector I can get for it? Obviously something built in?

Hopefully someone can help with these questions, as I'd like to start preparation for installs and such..

There are several after-market units available that take the place of the CD changer and its control mechanism on the wheel.

It is a MOST fiber system.

Not on the U.S. models. The changer and the in-dash player take DVDs, and you can set up MP3's on them, but otherwise you're just listening to movie soundtracks.

Not by default, but you can get the MB puck for a good chunk of change. I'm pretty sure there are third party options available.

Yes. File system recommendations are in the COMAND manual that should come with the car.

If I had to do it over again, I'd get the Passport 9500ci. I'd chuck they laser deflectors it comes with and install Laser Interceptors. That would be expensive but pretty protective as far as radar detectors can be...

AMGfan, out of curiosity. How does the 65 do against american muscle? The irony is.. I'm gonna be taking delivery in Tampa. *lol* (by Thursday)

I've only had the car about 2 months but in that time it's been in the shop for various mods so basically I've had about 3 weeks actual seat time. I think stock it will do very well and after the performance mods I don't think they will be even be in sniffing distance (if they are stock).

the Dice system is made by Dice Electronics and allows full integration of an iPod into the Comand system.

The best radar detector you can get is the Valentine 1. I have them in all my cars and they are brilliant. I have also tried a number of the others and the V1 saves my license every time!

They are easy to hard wire but no built in.

+1 The V1 is the best detector. Add on a laser jammer and you're good to go.
