Just released...NO 2010 SL
Word just came down that there will be no 2010 SL. Looks like the 2011 SL will be available some time in Q1 of 2010.

05' sl 500
if this is true about the re-design then a lot of people are going to be pissed! imagine buying a $100k+ car which style only last 2 years. what about the guys who spent all the money to upgrade their older sl's to look like the 09's?
hopefully the changes wont be too drastic!

I expect the next generation will be classy. I just hope they don't surprise me by leaving an exposed hood seam (from the side view) as they have with the new C and E. Looks like they took the easy way out on those.

I suspect
I suspect a dramatic change, something to get people to want to want the newest SL, the recent change didn't give me that feeling at all. Car makers are going to have to really work to get sales in the future...

????
So why skip model year 2010 if no change, there was not much change from 2003 to 2008 and there was a yearly model.
2009 model then 2011....
2009 model then 2011....

I never heard
I never heard of a year being skipped on a production car. I guess I just don't follow this close enough.
Should be some big depreciation on the second year 2009 model...

Once the word gets out that the '11 will be available in the early spring no one will want an '09 especially if residuals/resale #'s plummet. I guess MB is banking on a relatively light supply of remaining cars and not many people knowing there won't be a 2010 unitl later this year. I happen to like the facelift the car got for 09. I came quite close to buying an 09 SL63 last week but the exhaust note was simply too loud and not very appealing especially at lower rpms with the top down...the exhaust note at higher rpms was very nice however. btw they offered $40k off the sticker and 1.9 APR financing.

Well I know there are quite a few '09 SL's still out there, we only have one left, which is the way our GM likes it. BTW, they are offering a little over $12k off for this one in particular, so I am sure that heavier discounts will soon follow.

I'm hoping for a softened version of this for the next SL...

Once they hit the magic $20k off (with trunk money no doubt) and if there is a good lease program I am in as my Porsche is having serious engine issues and may need a new motor (car has less than 20k, was bought new and I broke it in by the book). Lately there has been quite a few 997 Porsche engine issues most related to a bad cylinder, heavy oil consumption and/or heavy black soot from one side of the exhaust...haven't seen the need for a new SL engine to be replaced in a long while.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
They're already well past $12k off...
and there are going to be no lease deals. MB is still stinging, as the other manfacturers, from the killing they are taking on these silly residuals. I'd look for even more trunk money and cheap financing. Fabulous car if you can afford one, and I mean th depreciation, not the payments!

I actually checked out the 2010 E Class. Agressive stance and well appointed. The intro and the slow market probably are probably the reasons for the drastic price reductions. Also, the new E is about $3k less than a comparably equipted '09. Look for some good deals......

2006 SL500/2006 Porsche Cayenne S Titanium
To those of you who haven't heard of manufacturers skipping a year, just look at the Porsche Cayenne. There was the 06 model year and then they skipped 07 and introduced the 08 model in 07. The residuals were still quite good on leftover 06's even though the 08's were just out. Go figure, I'm sure there were other makes that did the same thing, I know about Porsche's because I bought a left over 06 in 07.

There are rumors of an all new SL for 2011 following the release of the SLS Gullwing in 2010, e.g.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL will be introduced in 2011 in the US as an all new light-weight roadster model that should be even better to drive than the current vehicle. The new Mercedes-Benz vehicle is scheduled to be unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, and it should be very good competition in its segment for the BMW’s rumored 1 Series-based roadster which is also due out in 2011.
Mercedes has decided to introduce a new aluminum construction technique on the new SLS vehicle and this new construction will be also included in the 2012 SL. North American sales of the SLS will start in 2010 as a 2011 model year vehicle. The 2011 SLS will be the first stand-alone production model to be designed and developed completely by Merecedes-Benz’s AMG division.
