SL/R230: Shutting off Keyless Go chime
Is there a way to shut off the chime that comes with keyless go that chimes it's little heart out any time you shut the car off or open a door? I have heard it's dealer only, some dealers will not disable and I have heard that it can be turned of by the user.
Has anyone turned it off themselves?
Thanks in advance.
I tried to leave the key in the car the other day. Kept pressing the door button and it wouldn't lock. I'm like WTF?!??! Then I see the key on the passenger seat. Of course I've trained myself to ignore the chime by now.

Further, other brands can do this in a far less annoying manner. I hated the car but I had a C6Z06 and that had a very slick keyless system.
IMO, I'd rather not have Keyless Go if I can't turn off the chime.
My next move is to physically find the chime and yank it. I'm concerned that it may be through the sound system.
There is a temporary way to silence that beep (which only goes off when the doors are open).
Find the "trip odometer/interior lighting dimmer" stalk which is on the left of the gauge pod (you know, the cluster that has your speedometer and tach).
Push it, the next time the keyless go is chiming. It will stop. However, each time you open the door, it will go off all over again. But at least you have a way to stop it.

Btw, in the S550 and ML, no chime, just message. Once in the S500, the chime thing went crazy and made the most annoying noise - worse than the usual chime.

Now, if you use your key like a normal key and have it in the ignition when you open the door, you'll get the "Remove your key" message and chime like a normal car. You remove the key, get the "Don't forget your key" message, then you reinsert the key into the ignition to turn off the chime like above.
I guess they figured that if you put the key into the ignition while the door was open, you knew what you were doing.

The dealer said it could not be turned off.
I went to a small garage-Eurotech-to see if they could turn off-they have the computer hookup-they were unable to turn off-but said they turned the volume down-had no effect.
