Here is the doc that might help you (follow the links)?
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...t-go-down.html
Did you try to press and hold the switch either up and/or down for a short time to see if it will sync back in?

MB said that it was out of adjustment...whatever that means....if anything, there should be an easy way to put the top down manually...thank god, i was at the golf course just a few miles away....

His wifes head hard into the headboard nightly!!
the more read, the only thing 100k about these cars are the price. Suspension issues in all years, roof issues, electrical(battery), command u nit issues and the list goes on. basically have the $ to buy it and the same amount to fix it, and another car you love to drive when this one is getting fixed. I would never recommend a sl to anyone. Look great in the garage..maybe why so many have low miles.

I had the problem in mine. One of the side flaps was slipping where the gear meets the tooth. You can unbolt the flap assy. and remove the backing plate. They seem to warp over time. I solved this by putting a thin strip of sheet metal under the straight tooth track. It's about a 30min. job and works well.
