PIcs of my JL 13.5" sub installed in footwell & sport bmpr W/lip (inspired by AMGFAN)

After seeing AMGFAN's sub install, I order the sub and amp from an ebay seller streetstereo i think..half price of retail in canada! Free shipping in USA, so I drove down t Blain and picked it up. Emailed the thread of the install to my shaop and they put the JL 13.5" sub where the BOSE was and we put a 500/1 in spare tire well. The bas knob in the ash tray. Sub takes about 3"..i think. basically the grill stick outs far, and the sides are not as far as the 2-3". It comes to where the net would be at the furthest part out(for my box anyway)
the carpet goes over easily, the floor mat i pulled closer to the seat about 1" so it looks perfect, and sat nicely.
the SUB and stock Bose spkrs..SOUND AWESOME!!!!!! this thing pounds, rood down..POUNDS, no difference. Having the sub upfront is so nice, full trunk, full sound. I cant believe the sound from this 1 sub combo.
here r some pics, the sub and amp came with a free wire install kit and free shipping.

http://www.streetstereo.com

jl 13.5 sub was $337USD
jl bass knob was $27USD
jl 500/1 amp was $369USD
JL grill was aprox 20-39$ from JL..i forget
free shipping to USA, free install wire kit.

install of amp, making of fiberglass box etc..was 1000$cdn
Install was clean, stealth and basic..nothing showy or fancy.

also got my sport bumper w/ Carlsson front lip that I bought from a fellow forum member installed and HIDs swapped over.

In my setup, I have only lost about 1-2 inches of leg room which is not noticeable at all. Between the grill, the carpet and the carpet mat there is sufficient protection for the sub.

In my description I wrote it sticks out about 2-3" max w/ grill. You dont loose much at all..not enough to notice. So much leg room in car to start. I shpwed pics in detail how far it sticks out, , shows where floor mat is etc.
g/l ..you will love it if u do it no question.

After following AMGFAN's install and now reading about your install, I'm contempating doing the same type of sub install in my SL. But I have a few technical questions if you don't mind:

1) Is the sub amp powered off the battery in the trunk?

2) Does the audio signal feeding the sub amp come directly from the signal going to the original subwoofer?

3) How was the remote turn-on for the sub amp handled?

Thanks!

Stereo shop did my install. But I'm certain amp is powered off rear batt. The amp input is off the deck ( RCA ). Not sure how done as my car had a powered bass tube already instaled in trunk when I bought car. It was removed as useless. Aml is only on when key is in. I imagine there's a few way to do it. Depends on yr shop. I like having the bass knob close in ashtray so I can turn dwn for certain songs and when pulling in home etc.

Looks good, very clean install. I went to a shop in Northern VA to have them do the same and they suggested 2 JL 6.5" subs, not sure which way to go. Thanks for the detailed pictures.

I cant see any amount of 6.5 giving bass like the 13.5. The bass rumbles the whole car, top dwn just as good, went for a drive today top dwn..just love the sound system now!! dont mess around w/ 6.5".

I think to do behind the seat would be expensive due to the fact you need to spend lots of labour to make the box look good, not destroy interior, may be difficult to get to cd changer, fuse box etc. Won't be able to recline/adjust seat possibly. Also when you lve car parked it will be seen and have more chance of attempted theft of system. You loose alot of storage space that way. This way u loose about 2" leg room on passenger side in a car with lots of leg room. Also clean, stealth install. + don't need showy box as it's not seen
but it is heard!!!!!! Lo

I would say if you are going for lots of sound, doing an upgraded set of components that include a 6.5 in the door wouldn't be a bad idea. If I ever get around to getting one of these I plan to go either a 7" component set and a 13.5 or maybe even dual 6.5 and the 13.5. These cars have so much potential, I'm just a bit terrified to tear into something so expensive....My previous stereo installs were basic speaker/cd/amp/subs kind of stuff and I haven't played with fiberglass much.

I was also thinking of doing something like this and using two kicker l7 8's, but I wasn't sure if there is anything that is of great structural importance in the front portion of those bins. I plan to go with an aftermarket dvd setup and ditch the cd player, but the fuse panel is a bit of a concern. I am thinking the easier way to get some solid bass for not a ton of money or damage to the interior would be to go with the stock location in a fiberglass box with a half pound or more of polyfill

I did just the sub and ran wires in case I did upgrade of spkrs. But it sounds awesome as is. For the price of good components and proper install, amp. Etc. Till I blow spkrs it's not wrth it to me. I was scared to add an amp after huge over 6k bill to fix battery drain issue and 2 mo. Wait for my car. They are so finicky. Scared to do anything else.
Like I Said, add sub if u need more add components. But Its awesome as is. Bose system wasn't crap to start. Just lacked bass for me.

I would really like to add the JL 13TW5 (13.5" sub) to my car as well. Is there anyone that can help with how you get a signal from the stock command unit, and convert it into RCA inputs for an amp??
What do you tap into??
Thanks
Nick

I just did my install and you just use the wires that were sending signal to the stock sub. Also you can get can get an rca converter that creates its own remote amp turn on signal, it made wiring really easy. You will be very impressed with how much sound can come from a tiny sub and enclosure.

Do you have some more info on the name/type of rca converter with signal wire??
Thanks

Found it...
http://www.pac-audio.com/Products.aspx?CategoryId=28

SOEM-T 2 channel output> Probably best for just converting signal to run 1 sub..

SOEM-4 4 channel output>Best if you are going to also run another amp to power components, etc...

Thanks
