2007 SL550 with a blemish

I bought a 2007 SL550 yesterday and there is one thing which I would like to fix. It has an AMG badge stuck on the right side of the trunk. What is a safe way to get this fake badge off my trunk?

Warm the area locally (or do it on a hot day) using a har drier for example but dont go too hard at it your just trying to warm the adhesive. Then using tooth floss cut through the adhesive using a sawing motion back and forth. Be careful and dont cut too hard or the floss will snap. You will feel the adhesive come free. You can also ask somebdoy to lightly pull at the badge, it makes cutting through the adhesive backing a bit easier.

Once the chrome badge is off use an adhesive remover to wipe away the residue. I have used nail varnish remover previously with good results just remeber to polish the area then wax it back up gain afterwards.

Its a relatively easy job, just be patient and it will come off no problem.

Good luck

I got everything off very nicely except it looks like the car was clear coated after the badge was fitted. I now have a thin hard edged silhouette of the AMG logo. What a bummer. I'll need to get this buffed out and resprayed with clear coat I guess.

Its hard to tell without seeing pictures but id say a good detailer will be able to buff this back without the need for paint.

One question though, who on earth would paint a car and leave the badges on then clear coat over the top ?.

I think you may just have a build up that needs cutting back with a buffing machine and a good quality polish with a light cutting agent in it.

Go to the best vehicle detailer in your area and ask them to do the job. Dont get it painted until you have tried that first.

Post a picture on here for us to see what it looks like, i best its just residue from all the road grime etc.

I would have thought grime would come off with various cleaners I used and also goof off. My nail doesn't dislodge the hard edge so I thought it was clear coat.

Can't take a photo now but will post one later today.

[QUOTE=calicant;3983992]Here is how it looks.

Might need some clay bar work. Ask your local detailer.

That doesnt look like its been painted over to me, it looks like the paint around the badge has oxidised slightly. A GOOD professional detailer will carry out paint correction for a few hundred $ on your whole car and you will never know the badge was there + the paint will be mirror like.

Dont do any paint repairs whatever you do. Find the best detailer you can and get him on the task. It will come off im sure

Let us know how it goes.

The dealer buffed the area and the mark has vanished.

Thank you everyone who replied.
