Complimentary Upgrade to MBRACE

I received a letter in the mail today about a complimentary upgrade to MBRACE for my 06 SL600, has any else done this, I imagine it is all software, any big benefits of doing so?

The software upgrade is free, but only if you agree to subscribe to the mbrace service. They offered me a lifetime subscription at $299. However, only some of their basic services could be applied to my 06 SL. I determined that mbrace's limited services offered for my car weren't compelling versus Teleaid, which I opted to cancel long ago after the first free subscription period expired.

IMO, the mbrace phone agent's statements were deceptive. Afterwards, I felt as though I had been talking with a sales rep for one of the infamous SAT TV companies.

RE: MBrace Upgrade

I also received the the letter and had the update done last month. The one time $299 upgrade fee includes base MBrace service for as long as you own your car. IMHO the upgrade was well worth it.

RE: MBrace

Base services includes SOS, roadside assist link, door unlock, theft locator, schedule service, contact dealer, and a few other features you will find in the catalogue they send you after the upgrade. The service works very well, and no more annual $240 Teleaid bill. I upgraded both my Benzes.

Mbrace

If you originally intended to keep Teleaid while you own your MB, this is a pretty good deal. I took it for both mine because I only had to pay $299 once, rather than $240 a year till I got rid of the cars. If you don't have teleaid, and don't intend to ever have it, no real point in the upgrade I expect, unless the next purchaser might value it. It works fine. My son has my SL, and he has had to use it when the car died on him a week or so ago.

I have sn 05 SL, not sure if my system is analog or digital. I'm sure I would need a digital system for MBRACE.

I too had the 'upgrade' from TeleAid to mbrace performed. The clincher for me was the mbrace $299 lifetime fee which was waaayy better than the $240+ annual subscription for Teleid. That in itself made it a no-brainer. The thing you have to watch out for, which services are available for your particular vehicle. In my '07 CLK, I do not get remote lock or Google Maps integration. As I do not have mbrace PLUS (like Concierge), I do not get traffic information. The vehicle locator application running on my iPad does work sometimes, but the map that is displayed for the location is not detailed enough. Also my Blackberry Curve does not support the mbrace mobile application (apparently the Curve's GPS is not accurate enough). So in the end, I paid a one-time $299 fee for remote vehicle unlocking. All other 'crisis' services are handled by a regular cell phone. As I intend to keep the vehicle, I decided it was worth it (and it does work) but only just.

Your 05 can be upgraded with no problem. It's digital.
