The first diffuser is done! and ready to ship. Yesterday I held it up to an SL550 sport. Everything seemed to line up perfect. But I will be sending it to member Carne57 today to test fit it for us and wait for the feedback from the install. I will probably be sending it via overnight, so we wont be waiting long.

IT'S ON!!
Ok, well the wait is over (for me anyway)... I received the test fit diffuser a few days ago and just finished it up. The install was actually very easy. No need to drop the mufflers. On my 2005 SL the exhaust tips come off with one bolt underneath which allows plenty of room to work (see photo) so you can do it in your driveway without a lift. Removing the black plastic bumper piece was probably the hardest part, just have to pull real hard... I did find it necessary to use pop rivets to pull the unit into place as tape just won't work for tight fitment and some shaping of the piece to the unit. Self tapping screws would work as well, but with pop rivets you can put a washer behind the body to get even more torque to pull the piece into place. I think the final fit was very good. In hindsight with the knowledge that the exhaust tips come off easily etc I would expect it to take 2 hrs at the most and that's allowing dry time for the adhesive remover and alcohol. You'll see in the photos that I used two rivets at the exhaust cut out, and also two more on the bottom edge. One other piece of info, I didn't use the attached bolts that were on the unit as they weren't needed with the rivets and tape in place.
Overall, I'm very happy with the quality of the piece and fit, and would like to thank Neal at Euroteck Motorsports for all his efforts to make this happen!!
I'm happy to provide any more feedback that anyone may need. I hope the photos came through, if not I'll get them posted, not a real tech person...

Carne57,
Do we need to take off the tips to install the diffuser?
BlackC230Coupe what great job on the diffuser can't wait to get mine. The sticker only says SL500/550 . I feel left out. LOL

exhaust tips
For me it was much easier to install the diffuser with the tips off. On my 500 there is one bolt on each tip and that's it. But the SL500 in '05 just had the big flat oval tips. Not sure about your 600.

They are the same big fat ovals. I took the bolt out of the bottom but they seemed to be well fussed in. I guess a lot of wd-40 and brake kleen. I wanted to replace them but the dealer quoted almost as much as the diffuser.

TY
By the way the diffuser looks great. Can't wait to get mine.
Was it worth the wait??? And effort? I have to really thank you for putting this together.

Great, but what about those of us that have modified exhaust that can't take off their tips? Is there a problem with fit or getting it on? I thought the whole idea was perfect fit and tape on? Not complaining but definitely didn't expect to have to rig the application.

I believe that worst case would be you may need to drop the muffler down from the rear hanger to give yourself an inch or so, but may not be necessary depending on your car. I'm not saying that the rivets or screws are absolutely necessary, it's just what I did for the best fit etc. Let's see what Neal works out.
