Thumbs up Re: I was following a New Red SL on the 405N yesterday

It's probably the one making the dealer rounds. It belongs to MBUSA's Western Region office. As I recall, it has the Ash interior.

BTW, I attended M-B's 3 hour SL training school last week. A very nice car! ...RAB

How long is the wait list right now for either a 500 or 55?

Here in South Florida, 3 years for the SL500, and the same for the SL55.

guys - NOBODY is going to have to wait three years for an SL500. period.

the production volumes aren't exactly trivial. they're shooting for something like 9,000 units in the US this calendar year. next year will be 11,000 or so just based on full-year production, assuming they don't ramp it up.

remember, they've already WAY more than doubled the scheduled SL55 production - just for this year.

Recently read the Feb edition of the Mercedes Enthusiast mags and they were saying something that the production volume on the SL55 will only be around 4000 units??

from 03/2002 Car and Driver:

they originally planned on 1800 units worldwide in CY 2002, but that's been bumped to 4000.

from 03/2002 Automobile:

4000 worldwide per year.

IMO, there will be plenty to go around once the markets quiet down after the initial speculation BS.

My dealer has been taking orders for the new SL since 1998, and has his first 2 year's allocation for people on the SL500 list.

He has no idea how many SL55's he will be receiving, but has a dozen, or more people on the list, including #1 - Me

hey guys...

the longer you wait, the better the food tastes........Yeah Right!!!
cogratulations for being #1......so quick, even to the name!!! sl55amg!

well, the good thing is the car has been around and road tested for over two years, so nearly all the kinks are out of it...now just to get the production to work in perfect synchronicity and they will be able to squeeze one extra out for the year...mine!
