SL ROADSTERS

tell me something about them, please.

i have never been a fan of them.

too claustraphobic in my opinion.

so, i have been a collector of the coupes

but, i have been thinking about acquiring one of the roadsters.

either a sl55amg, sl65amg, or a sl600.

i drove a one-owner 2006 sl55amg today. i didn't like it as much as my 2006 cl55amg.

i also drove a 2011 sl63amg. this is a new chassis, right?

i didn't like the interior.

would you mind telling me about these roadsters?

thnx

So ..... you have never been a fan of them, you find them claustrophobic, you drove one and didn't like it, and you didn't like the interior. Why would you want one?

I like the interior a lot. I had 2 SLKs and didn't find them to be claustrophobic - the SL has a wider interior, and room behind the seats. I've had many cars and my SL500 is the most comfortable car I've ever had. But the best thing about it is that you can change it from an attractive coupe to a great looking roadster in seconds.

One of the things I really like about an SL is how roomy & comfortable they are. I was very close to getting a SLK instead, & while I never found it claustrophobic either, an SL is cavernous by comparison. What I'm trying to say here is definitely skip the SLK, & well based on your other comments, skip the SL too. Maybe check out a CLK instead ?

OP - What do you need to know? You have already tried out the car. I am not sure how infinite head room is claustrophobic. If you like the coupe, then please enjoy the coupes. I like the stars and sun out when I drive. To each their own.

I have both the SL55 and CL55 and true the CL has more room even though the rear seat is good for children or very small adults. They are 2 different cars but overall I prefer the SL. I do not find it claustrophobic at all but with the top down it is wide open vs the CL that is closed. As far as the interior is concerned they are both nicely appointed with neither heads above the other.

The SL63 is not a new chassis but merely a cosmetic facelift with the normally aspirated engine vs. the supercharged engine.

Good luck with your decision.

M6 Gran Coupe
I'm a bit claustraphobic, too. I didn't spell that right, did I?

My advice is get the pano roof......I don't feel cramped at all with that.....but I can see how without it....I might feel cramped. My M6 was a cabrio and I hated not being able to see above me if the top was up. Granted, that car also had more space than the SL.

SL500R, 500SL, C230, 560SL, 450SL, 450SLC, 300CD.
In old Sl's and most classic roadsters, save Porsche cars, you kind of sit ON the car.
In the 129 and 230 models , and just about most roadsters nowadays you sit IN it.
The airiness of the R230 cockpit owing to the generous glazing, fine details and appointments will more than compensates for lowness of the driving position, if you prefer the former vintage seating arrangement that is.
Cheers.
