Mercury Warranty?? Need Help

I picked up a mint 03 SL500 with 25k miles on it. No issues at this time. Best quote for a Mercury Platinum Exclusionary warranty with Electronics package 0 deductible is $5k even 3 yrs 36k more miles

Is this worth it. That seems like a lot of money for what might go wrong. I will drive the car around 8k miles a year so in 3 years when the warranty is up at most i will have 49k miles

Thoughts??

2003 is a tough year to get an exclusionary warranty for that car. NAC stops at 2004 and will only write lesser coverage which is not worth it. Fidelity will not write a 2003 SL at all.

$5K IS a lot of money, but so is that car if something goes wrong. Top hydraulics, ABC, COMAND, etc can really hit the wallet hard.

I'd say you will do, if nothing major happens, about $3000 in the three years in claims. Figure one ABC strut, a leak somewhere, and one electrical item. That's pretty tame for a 2003 SL500 even with low miles.

So looking at it that way, you're only paying $2000 for three years of catastrophic protection, which is under $700 per year. For that car, that's nothing. So if something WERE to happen that's expensive, you're covered.......trans, engine, etc.

If it was me, I'd do it.

Now one interesting thing is that I can save you over $1000 on that same plan. Give me a call if interested at 856-912-2600.

I would go on line and request multiple quotes. The on line quotes are all resellers. I have a 04 and got an Easy Care quote of 5k for four years.

Bruce, does your plan also cover the entire ABC suspension system including the hydraulic shock absorbers?
Thanks

The issue here is that he wants $0 deductible. The higher the deductible the lower the cost; as it is with any insurance. That is a no-brainer. Plus insurance companies are in business to make $. They know about that MY and the car involved.

OK it ended up being $4250 with a $100 deductible for 4 years 48k miles, platinum exclusionary thru mercury from mike at autopom.com.

I also never usually finance but since it was 0% i did the 10% down followed by 18 monthly payments auto withdrawn from my amex

I called my MB dealer here first and they deal with mercury all the time and said 95% of the time it is seamless.

No i can drive the car without concerns and while i am paying over 4 grand for "in case something happens" and the reality is i will likely not break even (I have had my 03 S500 for almost 3 years and only spent $800 in repairs and drive it hard) with the ABC system and its issues i dont want to have to worry about it so i bought it and already have the warranty docs in the glovebox

In my opinion, $100.00 to $150.00 deductible is reasonable since none of these parts are cheap. I decoded to roll the dice and unfortunately, my Vario top pump went bad at a price of $2,500.00 including labor.

I am a believer now. I think!

I picked up a Total Care 3/36 from Easy Care about 6 months ago, between the IC Pump, Coil Pack, bushings, front strut and trans leak, it's nearly paid for itself. An extended is the only way to go with these cars....
