Nokia 6310i Won't work in a SL500 ?
We have just purchased 6310i phones upgrading from our 6210i phones. When we plug the new phones into the SL (R230) they won't register. Has any one else had this problem and know how to over to come this please ?

Philip

For some peculiar reason my own 6310i, which I had before I got the SL, would not register either. Only the Mercedes-Benz supplied phone, with my chip, worked.
At a garage in France they told me the phone was faulty and I had to use the M-B one - it wasn't faulty, but the car did take the M-B supplied Nokia with no problem - except that even now it does not always register when the car is turned on.
Must be a switch on the phone or a special software upgrade needed, perhaps?

???
Interested to know more. My next SL (built last week) has the prep for phone, but I was just going to buy a 6310i cheap on the high street/internet (only 249EUR in the shops here unlocked)
I assume my SL will still have the nokia only prep, suitable for 6310i.
Have you checked the version of software in your phone? Which is it?

just read your post Mustard
I was sure that I'd read that stock 6310i phones would work in the SL without sw mods etc. I hope this doesn't mean that some "newer" stock 6310is won't work, as well as some of the older ones (pre software v4.07 rings a bell from the brochure).

Spare Nokia 6310i going if it does work - only €250 unlocked :p

Certainly is: you pull back the linguatronic lever and it goes something like this:
Linguatronic: Beep
Me: "Dial Number"
Helga: "The number please..."
Me: "0207"
Helga: "zero-two-zero-seven"
Me: "934"
Helga: "nine-three-four"
Me: "1234"
Helga: "one-two-three-four"
Me: "Dial"
Helga: "Dialling..."
Helga can handle strings of up to five digits at a time; if she fouls up, you can restart her from the last string. You can get her to hang up the phone but it's easier just to press the button on the steering wheel.
Helga is definitely of Germanic origin and a bit more agressive-sounding than her sister in the Sat-Nav...
It's all very well, but if you can key blind, it's easier just to press Tel on the Command and key the digits. You can also get Helga to scroll through the phone book.
Re the 6310 - I believe Graham (London Lad) is something of an expert here, he may be able to advise on software levels. When I got my car, the 6310 had only just come out so from Nokia's perspective, later phones should do fine. Looks to me though the current installation uses a generic interface which will support a variety of phones from Nokia, Motorola, Sony-Ericsson and Siemens.
There's a real issue on spares availability here. Given that the average product like of a mobile phone is, what, 6-9 months, what will the dealer say in 10 years time if the future owner of the car waltzes in there and says "I need a replacement phone, please". Aside from the cost, the thing will be an antique. I sure hope they are stock-piling a few...
While I'm on, Evo magazine has reported a dealer Service A charge for their SL55 of about £250 which seems reasonable, better than the £1800 I've just paid to have my 355's cam belts replaced... and that's outside the dealer network.

Or:
Pull back lever.
"Beep"
Me: "Dial Name" (preprogrammed number attached to name)
Daisy: (I've got a very cultured sweet english girl in my linguatronic) "Dialling"
Helga is reserved for naughty boys in muscle cars who need a firm hand...

Just out of interest, can anyone beat 249EUR for a new unlocked Nokia 6310i? (Thats GBP175 at todays low rate of 1.42)
I assume that buying in Europe would not be problem as the phone menus are multi lingual (?) like my battered old 8210. I.e. you can select language under phone settings - is this right?
Do you chaps find linguatronic really useful? I assume you can dial using the steering wheel controls alone - is this right? I.e. press phone, scroll through numbers which will appear in the speedo with +- and then dial.
Test drove a 996 C4 yesterday. Mixed views. Thrilling to start with, then after a few hours the appeal started to wear thin, and I was glad to get back in the SL. I think this was partly down to it being LHD though.

(Daisy says "OK" whatever I say).
I always dial via the wheel - but this is not always intuative. If the cluster is on radio, which button of the four do you press? then is it up, down scroll etc. Then to get the phone number do you scroll up, down or what? Then do you press the picture of phone off the hook button to take the call, or the phone on the hook, or what? Probably quicker to use the linguaphone, on reflection.
It takes time, then when you have finished, to get back to the temp or the ICE is another rethink - which button, up , down etc.
Tiring! Much prefer the BMW system of phone on the wheel. One press, talk, thats it.
Nasty, you can have my old 6310i for 248EUR.....

SL500 (New 2002 Shape)
I have phoned the Mercedes Gatwick (UK) and they have said that whilist the new Nokia 6310i fits into the car the software needs upgrading. The cost to carry out this work is £340.00 (Including VAT) For that cost I will stick with the 6210i hand set !

????
???????
You mean the software in the Merc or the 6310i? How can it be so much to upgrade the software in the phone when they only cost 185GBP? If its the car, how can they sell the phone kit as a 6310i compatible if its not?
How old are your 6310i s? Is this the problem? If I buy a new 6310i will it work in the car or not????
????Frustrated?????

Nokia support on 04 SL 500 in the US
Can anyone confirm or find out if this Nokia phone or any Nokia pohone work in the US by upgrading the software. I have a 3560.. I cannot believe that MB would only support the Motorola V60.. these phones are all outdated.. Could someone in the US who may have connections to MB corp. please respond.
Thanks
