Tire pressure monitoring - DISPLAY.....what am I doing wrong ?-tire_pressure.jpg

My car is 2009 SL550. The manual states that I should be able to read the pressure
of each tire. However when I follow the manual I was never able to see the screen
showing 4 individual tire pressures.

All I get is: Active Menu: R-button. After I hit the menu/reset button, as instructed,
I am asked if I want to restart the tire pressure monitor. ("+" for YES, "-" for NO),
After I press "+" for YES, I get a message: Tire Pressure Monitor Restarted.

I am not able to get to the above screen (shown in the manual) that shows the
tire pressure for each of the 4 tires.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

After you reset the TPMS you need to drive the car for about 15 minutes or 15 miles. Than the desired screen appears.
Cheers.

Daytime: Slow and easy with 2006 SL500 & 2003 S430 . Night time: Hard and Fast with my wife
I am curious that this monitoring capability would be similar on the 2006 SL500? I just bought my car couple weeks ago and have not seen individual display of each tire pressure.

My problem is that I drive only around town for now and its only 10-12 min to my work (9 miles)...
But hopefully I will cross the tough goal of 15 miles/15 minutes soon, LOL !! ;-)

I have an 08 and that page / screen is referring to the advanced tire pressure monitoring system that is for Canada only. I think ours just lets us know a tire is getting low and it's our responsibility to find out which one?

The image of page 221 I am showing above is from USA 2009 version,
so I am keeping fingers crossed that once actually drive over 15 miles
and 15 minutes - I will see this info for individual tires

Every SL starting in 2003 with a tire pressure monitoring system shows the tire pressure of each tire.

Remember that these were optional in the beginning, so no TPMS, no reading...
Also, the sensors have a shelf life due to the batteries, so missing or bad sensors will not show (but you'll see an error message instead)

Not according to the owners manual with my 2008 SL55. U.S. models have TPMS but only Canadian models have the TPMS that allows one to display actual tire pressures. I've asked techs at my local dealership - they say the same thing.

I get the tpms not active warning and tells me to press the reset button, so I press the reset and hit the + button to acknowledge which also beeps then says "activated." I drive a few miles down the road and the same warning message comes up says "tpms not active" ; am I doing something wrong or is there a malfunction?

Wow. I stand corrected!

It appears that some model years have the advanced TPMS (that shows the actual tire pressure) only in the Canadian models while the US got a dumbed down version. Then, since the 2011 model, it's back in as before. Go figure

Mine is older than yours and it definitely has the advanced TPMS.

Do you have the sensors installed in your wheels? It's easy to check, btw. If the valve stem is rubber, then there are no sensors in the wheels.

Also, the battery life on the sensors is limited (think it's 5-6 years on the on Beru sensors), so they could be dead.

Yes I have the thicker metal valve stems, I was thinking bad battery as well.

If you know anyone with a Star Tek, it's easy to find out which wheel isn't reporting the pressure. Could be one, more or all.

The older SL's require the Beru sensors, which are the most expensive and least reliable ones. This is due to the frequency used. They also don't report temperature, which is a really nice feature...

Good news, thanks! Thought I was doing something wrong. Why don't they just say that in the manual?

Apparently not on all US cars

Doesn't work on my 2008 SL55. I checked and set tire pressures, started the car, restarted the TPMS, and drove around for well over 30 minutes (and at least 15 miles) - all I get is the Ready Menu R message - when I press the Reset button all I get is the menu - +Reset -Cancel. So I'm guessing at least some US models do not display tire pressures.

Good Morning All
I have been racking my brain over the tire pressure system. I have a 2003 sl55 amg. when i scroll to the screen there is a car with 4 dashes where i assume numbers should be ?? i cannot see any numbers on ay tires, i get a tire pressure warning light.....but can't reset it. all 4 monitors are good. drove for 1/2 an hour...still no display and the warning light comes back.
any suggestions

Thanks Bill
