Thericker...
Finally I found you.... I was after you al the time regarding the turbo shaft modification ... : )
Yes I now why I got so much power .. It was cold weather and the car run hard!
Very hard. I have datalog the car yesterday many times and you must belive me it dosnt matter from which material the pipe is made from because the coolers. I think you also now that. You have NOT measure intake temp as I have. I have follow it many hours time now. Your intake end is at wrong place. It must be complete outside from the engine room and at the front of the radiator.

Thericker.
-What is your time at 1/4 mile?
Somebody have ask you before and you have not answer yet?
Im gone test my car end of next week at 1/4? Hope for 11,5-12 sec.

-Regarding the turbo shaft modification.
Did it give more boost also and how much longer did't hold up?

Hello.

Today I have bought the exhaust wrap which I'm gone use at the intake pipe so we can see does it help or not.
I'm gone test it so that I'm gone drive the car same time at same speed and after a while stop the car at the same place and let it run at idle.
Then I'm gone look how much the temperature rises at following steps.
- 1 min
- 2 min
- 3 min
- 4 min
- and after 5 min

I think 4-5 min is to long time.... who let the car run so long time??
But I'm gone look after that also.

I bought this wrap (45 USD) only for "you" so you can see is it affects whether or not.
I'm gone take it of after the test.....

PS. I will record the video of the event with my I-phone to you so al can see with your own eyes.

Can't give any date when I have time to do it but I hope it's gone be soon.

(The exhaust wrap reducing only 50% of the heat so I think this is better).

Specs:
Continuous operating reflective temperature of 1100°F, 2000°F intermittent
Capable of reducing up to 90% of radiant heat
Helps to prevent vapor lock, lower air intake temperatures, protects wires from melting
Also available in a sewn seam
Made in the USA

I wonder why nobody have not think to insulate/protect the coolers also... I think its much more important than the CAI pipes?
I'm gone try to do something under the coolers because the engine room heat.
The heat is going up so maybe some plate under the coolers would be a good solution also.

I have seen insulation under intercoolers. Yes, I would imagine the engine is heating them up along with the air going through them.

I'd be interested to see someone wrap the exhaust manifold, turbo, and intercoolers and see what it does to under hood and intake temps.

... I'm not going to wrap the exhaust manifold or turbo.... to much work .
I'm gone wrap the downpipes next week and try to do something with the coolers also. Easy to measure the temp before and after...
Its gone took at least 1 or 2 week before I have the insulations wraps / shields I need.

I found this info regarding which place is the best place for the CAI end at the front.
Somebody have measure it with "probe".

I placed the probe behind the radiator and found the speed at which the switch clicked over - 180 km/h. That compared with 110 km/h in front of the radiator. So, the pressure build-up behind the radiator was well below that occurring in front of it...

So dosent this mean you have more air pressure at the front than behind (left and right) the radiator where the OEM intake holes located.

I have wrapped my downpipes and Zurtec coated the manifolds along with the Speedriven inter coolers. I have also replaced the stock radiator to allow more space for a quad CAI with two large intakes in front of the radiator and two smaller ones behind the DRL's.

I will let you know how it goes once I get some testing done.

Can you show any picture about the front?
Would love to see how you have solved it?

Is nice to see how some people have the courage to start implementing "your own" version about the CAI.... it's not easy and you must spend lot of hours..
As a result, a big change power scores .... a lot more when you first thought...

test before wrap, then put wrap on , and not take off,, why put something that probaly help out in bigger or smaller way, and then take it off?? but can imagine also change this rotten spark plugs helped some .

if want get heat down on engine, also teflon treat it, it will also protect bearings in turbos.. i se some people have problem that engine headers heat up the engine itself ,, in my case in 40 deegre heat outside, i dont se on the engine water any change, also the oil temp has gone down after did teflon treatment http://www.icelube.net/Engine%20Treatment.pdf
i used this for 20 years,, it work very well . i treated 4 SL i owned with this stuff , and i drive like i have stolen the cars,, not repaired any on engines or gears yet on any of them . From Finland you can order from this Norway guy www.qmi.no Royal purple oil best oil in world,, my oil use has gone down alot sinse i changed on all my cars to 5 -40 Royal Purple,

heat issue and performance ,, i been driving in 33 to 40 c deegre heat in days in Spain, feels like loosing 100 hp or more.. then drive at night in 26 c deegre and power comes back,, in daytime does not help mutch if have 2 intercoolers in 35 c plus, alot power gone anyway from heated up road .

seems your car need be lowered some also in back

If you are going to the trouble of taking off the intercooler, you should be able to get some form of that companies heat shield to cover the turbo and majority of the manifold. I wouldn't use the thin wrap, but maybe one of the bigger blanket types or turbo wraps would do the trick.

I was advised by Turbo Dynamics in England that covering the turbo is not a good idea as it traps the heat within the turbo enclosure which would cause issues over time.

Yes I now....
I have already send an e-mail to Heat Shield products and few pictures about my CAI. Pictures about the hole engine room where they can also see the coolers and where the CAI pipes located.
I have my own ideas but to be sure I do it right I want theirs opinion also.
Hope an answer soon...
But at this summer not big modifications anymore.... may be next winter.

Keep us updated on what they think. There has to be a way to keep some of the heat down under the hood

Thank you...

I have read a lot of those treatment's but have never try them..... honestly I'm a little afraid to use them....
But we will see..... maybe

Yes I must take it down at the rear and at the front to. More at the rear.
I'm gone order the programa lowering module and we have group buy going on but it seems that is not going to happen.

Thank you for the treatment advise.

I will be running 2 inter cooler pumps and 2 fans all going through a control unit which can adjust each pump and fan speed independently depending on the temperature that you program each item to cut in at, they will also be variable speed so they can ramp up and down individually as required.

I am hoping we have now done enough to counter the v12 heat issues and allow the new upgraded turbos to create the power we are looking for.

Which module is the group buy on and what price?

Because when I had nothing to do I decide to calculate few things.
Yes yes yes... I now everyone can do this .... so this is for them who don't.

I now following fact.

- Every 100 hp need 0.13 USg/fuel at min

- So if I have 670 hp at the engine its need fuel following.
(670*0,13)/100=0,88 USg fuel at min.

- From this I can calculate the necessary minimum fuel pump size.
0,88 USg*60 min= 52,8 USg/ hour

- Injectors minimum size :0,88 USg / 12 cyl.=0,0733 USg / min
Because the injectors can't be open al the time we can think max open time is 90%.
(0,0733 USg/90%)*100= 0,0814 USg/min.

- Because Lamda must be 1. (Its mean 0,26 USg fuel need 3,9 USg air to burn).
ECU adjust it al the time vs Lambda sensor at the downpipes.

So in 1 min the engine need air for 670 hp .
670 hp*3,9 USg=3,432 USg. (or Lbs).

I'm not 100% sure If I have think it right...

So is't possible I have so much power at the engine?
I don't now how big our fuel pump is and I don't even now the injectors capacity?

Only thing I now many of you have change bigger injectors. Speedriven told me that I don't need to do it .... and some people tell I must do it.

So who now the SL600:
-Fuel pump capacity?
-Injectors capacity?

If one of these is too small than what I have calculate it means at full power my engine is going to lean.

Because I use metric system at my own calculations and now when I have calculate for you in USg may be I have made mistakes at the conversions..

I am quite sure the fuel pump is no issue as it produces more than enough pressure however the injectors are very border line. I have put the SL65 injectors in to be sure.

Fans... I have also think about them.... You build it really well!!!

Here is the thread... Programa.... same as Renntech. I'm gone order it so I can adjust my car right without links...

Because I had nothing to do yesterday I adjust my car with links.
I lowered at rear about 1" more.
Now I have from the floor to the fender edge about 28".
I test with 27,55" but it was to low. It was nearly at the bottom. Now its fine and I'm happy.

Couldn't find any 100% true info about the pump and injectors so I decide to send Bosh/Germany an e-mail regaring our engine flow specs.
I hope they answer me.: )
