Looking for a navigation update for my incoming 05 SL65. Is there another Mercedes model that uses the same system? I've found some 2014/2015 discs on ebay, but none that specify the 230 SL. Doing some tracking, it looks like maybe the SLK from the same year matches? Any info will be appreciated!

 

Do you have the CD version or the DVD version?

 

Not really sure. I can check after my car arrives. Did the 05 230 have both options?

 

2005 SL has DVD based nav.

 

Then you should be able to get it from your Dealer or from eBay

 

Is it the same disc as the SLK? That's what I am trying to find out.

 

I believe that the Sl and SLK discs are the same.

The 2005 and 2007 SL's have the NTG-1 Nav System. The newest and final update for that system is V-15, 2015-2016. It is not listed for the SL for some reason apparently known only to MB but it is compatible and works. I find it on the navigation.com website by searching under 2007 E class which uses the same system and is listed on the new disc. There should be no problem with a 2007 in jumping straight from the 2007 version of the DVD to the V-15 DVD. Some 2005 owners have reported issues but the early production 2005's had different firmware that the 2006 and 2007 DVD's updated.
Similarly, my 2009 SL600 was an early build and it has the new hard drive based system. The early builds had defective firmware and would not load the updates. The dealer had to reload new firmware with the Star system then load the Navigation updates. Since these are known issues the dealer should update the firmware at no cost, mine did.
