Adding Power Steering Fluid to SL550 with ABC
My power steering was groaning a bit, so I checked the PS fluid level on my 2008 SL550 and it's not even registering at the minimum level for 20C (engine off and cold).
I've read multiple posts that say that the Power Steering is integrated with the ABC system and adding the wrong type of fluid (and having them mix) is detrimental.
So I have a couple of questions:
1) Assuming I'm using the correct fluid, is it safe for me to simply top the PS reservoir off?
2) If the above is true, what is the proper fluid for a 2008 SL550? My manual recommends Chevron Texaco PSF 9109 (listed as MB Power Steering Fluid), but I've seen recommendations on forums to use Pentosin CHF 11s.
And finally, the manual lists the ABC fluid as simply "MB ABC Fluid", so that leads me to believe that the two systems aren't actually integrated. Can anybody clear that up for me?
Thanks!

I used Pentosin CHF 11s
I did'nt think to look in manual, as it is the same pump as ABC
Hopefully I chose correct!
Update: Phew I did

This was an old thread, but just for anyone seeing this, the current recommendation is 236.3 (Mercedes Power Steering Fluid) as the base specification and for temps below -25C either 345.0 or 345.1, which both have Pentosin CHF-11S as the only approved fluid.
