New Arrival

I picked up my new SL 500 2 weeks ago. I could not report earlier as I was moving to the US (VA) and did not have a computer. The car was ready on the day following my arrival-not bad timing after 18 months on the waiting list! It is Aegean Blue/Charcoal/Burl Walnut.

The car is superb to drive. The new 7 speed gearbox coupled with the engine gives terrific take off speed - very smooth and powerful. I use it as a daily commuter-a 50 minute drive each way. Such a pleasure. I do mind the commute at all :-)

I have tried to post a couple of pics but without success. Apparently the regular upload feature of the board is not working but even a single photo attachment does not go through. Does anyone know what gives?

Congrats on the new ride.

If you e-mail me the picture, I'll post it for you.

Please post pictures. Mine will be arriving in 3 weeks. I have forgotten what the color looks like since it has been so long since I placed my order. Did you order the sports package and if so, how do the wheels look on the car?

Thanks for posting WayneE. They look great.

Mattnaz. I did not order order the sports package. I figured the car did not need it. The main options are Parktronic and Keyless Go.

Wish I still had them. I bought the first one in 1982 (it had been off the road for 15 years). I sold it in 1984. I bought the second one in 1988, it was a rare manual, and drove it for about 4 years before selling it too. It has been a long wait for the next one. The new model has made it well worthwhile, however. I am in Virginia and it is almost warm enough to put the top down. I can't wait. Maybe tomorrow.

Nice car!

The color is a refreshing change from the Silver and Black usually seen around.

Cheers!

Nice color choice.

OT: Do you live in MD? Those houses look like N. VA or Maryland type houses.......

Third SL,
I am picking my car up Friday. Any problems to report or anything you would recommend I address with the dealer before taking delivery? Have any chips from rocks on the car as of yet? I am thinking of doing the 3m film on the car before driving it home.

Thanks

Nice car -agree does not need Sports Pkg

At least the wait got you a 7 speed. Curious what is the build date and whether the new DVD Command is now coming with the SLs?

Mattnaz. Absolutely no problems to report (no stone chips yet either but you know they're gonna come some day). I hope you enjoy trouble free driving too. You will enjoy every second behind the wheel. I have a 50 minute commute each way to and from the office and it comes to an end all too soon!!

everyone should get the 3m shield material installed. you will really regret the first rock chip. try invinca-shield for a price and spend the extra bucks. you will not be able to match the paint later!

theboogers,

Did you do the invinca-shield on the front, hood and along the sides of your SL55?

Third SL: Glad to hear there are no problems to report.

they can cover what you want. usually the front bumper, part of the hood, the mirrors and the rocker panels would be nice also.
