Talking

Looks like I hit a sore spot!

Someone who has a dressed up Toyota Camry should definitely not try to address the parts used by Mercedes (remember that old glass house saying)

This is a DISCUSSION not a WORD FIGHT

GROW UP GUYS

Why can't we discuss the pros and cons w/out having it be a personal thing.

Lexus and Mercedes are BOTH great cars. You sound like spoiled brats for trying to insult each other.

APPRECIATE BOTH if that's possible??

I told you my stance I LIKE BOTH cars and car companies for different reasons.

Trading verbal shots about dressed up toyotas and dressed up chrysler parts in mercs is so base.

Glad to know that we can evolve u know?

Well, we could, but all of the donkeys that keep posting about the Lexus always try to make it personal.

My solution, as I have always maintained, is to move discussion about how wonderful the Lexus is to the appropriate Toyota or Lexus discussion board and leave this board to discussions about Mercedes.

It seems to be that we keep getting dragged down to their level instead of having meaningful discussions about SLs. However, it is very funny to see how they get so excited and defensive about the Lexus when they are so obviosuly posting in the wrong place for a "Lexus love fest".

Agree! It's total neanderthalish behavior.

I wonder whether they realize that the light bulb was invented 123 years ago?

Or something even more esoteric and abstract:

COMPETETION IS HEALTHY! ...it benefits all, including - Neanderthals.

How's the Chrysler parts, or do you want me to go there? Maybe ya'll don't know about the parts in the new SL that will be shared with future Chryslers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know that Chrysler owns Benz, but don't they both operate under seperate companies and in fact use separate parts for their cars?

The Chrsyler Crossfire is the first Chrysler to use Benz parts, currently SLK and SL parts...Look for more with the new SUV's and the new LH cars (which will be RWD)....

You are correct. What was potrayed to the public as a "merger" was actually a takeover.

But parts WILL BE SHARED, it's nothing personal, just to become more cost-effective.

Global sourcing has become a fact of life in international trade since WWII.

To determine product origin/content has made many trade/customs attorneys wealthy,- because that oftentimes determines, whether the product is duty-free, a 5% or 35%,- or more duty is applicable.

So maybe the parts exchange is leading to a lower quality benz then? I mean I used to like benz when the had the previous generation s class but now all of the cars are looking to similar. Although I like the new cars that they are coming out with especially the E class.

Most of the parts sharing is going the other way around...look for more and more MB parts especially engines and eleclronic systems showing up in Chrysler cars...also platform sharing...the new Crossfire platform comes from the SLK...Chrysler is also developing a rear drive platform that will be based on MB suspension components...probably Cclass.

Yeah, BMW uses GM trannies correct? Many companies share parts from one car to another but some are much better at hiding the cost-cutting.

I agree, Benz technology will go into more Chrysler's and help them. Ever look at a new car and see the sticker that has orgin or vehicle and import/domestic content?
The Acura TL/CL were designed in California and are built in Ohio.
BMW Z3 and X5 is built in SC as the ML class is built in AL.

the sc430 is ugly, stock...wit the rite mods i.e. body kit, rims, etc... it doesnt look bad at all

the sl on the other hand is a stunning car , but in my opinion, hideously overpriced, and not worth it. i would consider the sl55 and sl600 if i had the money, but those are going to have massive price-tags

in my opinion the sc430 is simply a better value...its silky smooth, has one of the nicest interiors in the business, and for a few thousand dollars extra, it can look good. and to those guys complaining about the transmission in the sc430, wat the hell are you talking about? lexus makes excellent transmissions, the shifts are almost imperceptible.

and 1 more thing:

fvellani,

Unless it is you in the picture, I don't see any point at all except "disgrace". Sigh...

I agree. He thinks the SC is attractive.

By the way, you shouldn't have to modify a car just to make it look "decent". If you do, then there are serious problems with the way it looks in the first place.

I may have to go back to school just so I can write a thesus on how ugly the SC 430 really is ,and how it signifies what is wrong with certain aspects of modern design. I would probably win a prize for the paper since I could include it with a photo essay on the ugliest cars in automotive history (lets see: Gremlin, Pacer, Subaru SVX, 2001 Lexus SC430...).

I usually don't participate any "which car is better" debate, because I think that's personal preference and people have the freedom to choose what they like and express what they don't like. I just feel lucky to have any one of them.

However, use other human being's unfortunate to score for yourself is... "UNHUMAN".

how it signifies what is wrong with certain aspects of modern design.
Hey, I'm with you there. To me, it is a lost art. Everything is getting TALLER AND TALLER and BIGGER AND BIGGER to begin. All these 17" and 18" and 20" wheels from the factory are masking the serious ugliness and slabsideness of most new cars.

ANY CAR looks good on 17"+ size tires. ANY car looks better with a bodykit.

This stupid wheel arching on almost every car? To me, luxury cars are looking less and less luxury like. Front fenders are too high. Things are not proportional. What happened?
