I owned an SC 430 for two months. I traded it on a 2003 Launch Edition. The only difference between the SC 430 and the LS 430 (which I still have) was the top and the incredibly inferior drive that the run-flat tires gave the convertible. I also found the low seating position of the convertible awkward.
The 2003 SL is vastly more satisfying even at almost twice the price.

I am 6'2" and find the new and old SL much too confining for my frame, just too uncomfortable.

 

With the announcement of the SL350 at a price which compares more favourably with the SC430, I think this will be a fairer comparison. The SL will not stack up so well with its lack-lustre performance and cut down specification.

Maybe you SC430 enthusiasts will have your day.

 

SC 330 is coming. Considering the 8,000 orders for the SC 430 BEFORE it was at dealerships, I am sure no one is complaining....

 

I've never own3d a SC430 but we have a quite few of them in our immediate family. We have two sl500's also. I just want to say where ever we go attention is bound to be there. If you look in my thread "50k = New Rims" you will notice that i posted some new pictures of a party we just had two days ago. It was a religious celebration. Now tell me, does not those cars attract attention? btw, i live two houses down so there's an sl500 in the garage.. of course two houses down. this was at my cousins house, he has a lx470 and sc400

the point what i'm trying to bring across or basiclly my biased opinion is that we've own3d plenty of lexus's and just got tired of the lack of preformence. Mind you we kept those cars mainly stock but nonetheless theres little power. Also the SC430 doesnt have the *exclusitivity* factor. I see an sc430 here and there but an sl500, not one yet in houston unless u count the one in the garage or dealership. I know there are some but i haven't seen them yet. When we had the sc430 as a rental for a while not very many of my friends stopped to look at it yet the sl500.. WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY. Last year, when i was in 8th grade, someone's mother drove a sc430, all the car buddies glanced at it and started making a very similair topic as this thread. Except it was compared to a honda civic. Turns out the Lexus ended up as a poor preformance, overprice, all show car. While the Civic turned out as the real preformence car (w/ aftermarket mods of course) I'm pretty sure someone could plump up the SC430's power to the sl500 but that'll cost some money which they coulda spent on the sl500 :P

You can't say i'm bashing lexus.. i got way too many of them.. a coupla GS's, one too many LS430's and 400's WAY WAY WAY too many lx470/450's. You can't say i'm bashin Benz i also have too many of those. The people i am bashing here are those who think you can compare those DIRECTLY to each other. I tried not to do that but i think i did and btw.. one question.. Nakamichi.. do they still got that? i love it in the ls400! lol

 

Nakamichi is no longer an option, now the Mark Levinson systems are the option. If you thought Nakamichi was good (as it was chosen in numerous magazines as the best factory system in a car) the ML system is simply amazing.
