Filling convertible top pump

Well it appears that I need to add some fluid to the convertible top pump on my '03. The indicator is at the low point on the back of the tank. (See photo) I am also getting ready to put new "O" ring in the front lock cylinder. I opened the fill port and the bleeder on the pump and attempted to add fluid with a syringe. None would go into the tank. It just seemed to fill the space of the plug and overflow. I was putting the fluid in the port that is toward the front of the car ( arrow in second photo). Please let me know what I an missing to get fluid to fill the tank.

You're doing it right, open both ports, fill the one at the front towards the car, it'll drain slowly. Very slow process, but i'm able to fill mine with a syringe, i have a leak but i cannot find it, maybe it's in the top itself, gotta pull the headliner.

Waited 10 minutes and no fluid drained from the fill port into the tank. Not sure what I am missing?

That's weird, try sticking the syringe into the hole and force some fluid in. Or try to suck some out so the hole isn't filled and just drip it in slowly. It shouldn't just sit there like that, it'll drain into the reservoir.

You could take a soldering iron or similar tool and melt a small hole into the side of the plastic reservoir. You wouldn't want to use a drill, since shavings might get into the oil. Plug the hold with a screw, rubber stopper, or whatever you deem appropriate.

Wanted to take this moment to tell you that you have a leak somewhere, hydraulic fluid doesn't evaporate so if it's no in the reservoir, it's gone somewhere outside ... I have to trace mine down

I also just developed this leak, let me know when you do yours and if you have any tips. To remove the liner is rather easy, open the roof partially, leave the engine running so it wont collapse on you. use Torx T25 and remove 4 bolts along the front of the liner, and then just pull down, the rest are held in by clips, they will all separate at the glue so you won't have any clips, I'll just super glue it back after i fix the o ring.

I did. Used a syringe ( no needle) pressed to the fill port firmly. Slight pressure on the plunger and it slooooooly filled.

Hi,
I'm in a similar situation with a low Vario roof reservoir on my '05 SL500. I will be topping this up and using some Full Throttle multi system sealer first to see if this might remedy the situation. Many guys on this forum have used this product with good results in the roof, and ABC system too.

Hi!
I'm very interested. The front cylinder of my car is also leaking. Where can I find a repair kit? Maybe you have blueprints for making? Can you give me the part number of the cylinder?

Hi,
My front roof cylinder is not leaking when I pulled the roof liner off to inspect it. Fairly straight forward. If it was I would go this route.

Good luck.

I have had hydraulic issue over the years with most all equipment with oil. The issue is the seals loose their elasticity due to plasticizer migration causing the seals to shrink. I use a product AT-205...its a plasticizer replenisher that does not swell a seal but rejuvenate the seal to like new as long as the seal is not cracked or damaged. I use it in automatic transmissions, jacks, rear ends, engines...you name it. it sealed up a sector box that dropped the oil as fast as it was put in. Installed AT-205, a boat load of oil came out but i let it set for a day and no leaks and no leaks for 5 years. Sealed up a Ford-O-Matic trans to the point I had to adjust the TV rod to factory spec.

Put in my CLK top and the leaking stopped and has not returned in 3 years. Google it...good stuff fir anything with oil but not brakes. 10 cent solution to a $1,000 problem.
