Grretings from a new member.
Hi everyone, finally i completed my puchase.
I've just bought SL600 2004. The funny thing is that i bought it on a Polar loop from a place that has no road connection with the rest of the country, except snow road in winter. So i believe, it was some kind of rescue mission for this SL
Will post some pics later as soon as i get it from my phone.
So the car is 2004, with 60k kilometers of mileage. Black with light grey interior.
Already have some questions. I have check engine light on constantly. Which diagnostic tools/software you guys use? So far i could only find STAR for around 500 USD. Its much more expensive than VAG diagnostic tools that i have for my Q7. Maybe there is some trick, to get proper tools for nothing? Well, almost nothing
And i have some issue with misfires. The car runs perfectly until you go above 4-5k rpm. After that it some vibration starts ans it looks like misfires. However, if i stop and start the engine again, it starts working five, without any vibrations. Until another 4k rpm. Certainly it looks like dead/half dead coil packs, however i wonder if this is some mistake caused by 2-week container travel with unplugged batteries?
Thanks for any possible input.

Good job on rescuing a great car.
Every message about a V12 running bad talks about the coil packs, so that would be a good place to start.
I really think you need a Star with this car. There are so many electrical systems that it only makes sense to have one.
It will tell exactly what is wrong and show you how to fix it. It really is important for a complex car like this.
Plus, you can sell it when you are done with Mercedes for the same price.
Keep us informed of what you find under the hood.

Now that was an interesting weekend.
It started with my intent to wash the engine...
Which cost me a new engine radiatror and radiator fan. And 2 days of my life.
So now its only spark plugs left and i am ready for a cabrio season.

So a quick report on first 8k km on SL 600.
So far the repairs were:
1. Front brake pads and rotors. Just as planned. 400 USD
2. Front suspension bushings in lower rods. Just as planned. 100 USD
3. New engine radiator and radiator fan. That was the most expensive engine wash in my life The guy in Stutgart who desinged this fan control unit is a complete idiot. 700 USD wasted.
4. Coil pack. Good for me you can have it restored for around 400.
5. Pneumatic seats. Broken pipes in both seats, DIY.
6. New tyres. around 900.
7. New spark plugs - 300 USD
8. New IC pump. 100 USD
More or less that's all for 8k km of fun.
Things to be done:
1. Oil change in the gearbox.
2. Engine mount replacement. Looks like with engine removal
3. Replacement of ABC fluid and brake fluid.
4. Solving an issue with ABC - the car sometimes drops when parked. Looks like the strut and valve block have to visit a doctor
Overall not that expensive compared with the emotions you get at every single start.
