Smile MB Front turn signal repair..socket type bulb

Front turn signal repair..
repair kit new part #A203 826 02 82
My car is 2003 SL but this repair will be the same on all MB cars with the same headlight housing
this is a common problem. the directional signal electrical contacts within the headlight housing go bad.
when I bought this car both front signals were not working..
rear and mirror signal working....not the front signals
this repair will work on all MB cars with the same type of turn signal bulb socket
this is for a wireless bulb socket with electrical contacts on the sides..
see photo below..

OEM socket has metal contacts on the side
the REPLACEMENT socket is wired
photo of original and replacement sockets new part #A203 826 02 82
original is in the center NOT wired new part is wired available at MB dealer or on line

turn signal error on dash ... Front Right

1) test the bulb and socket ..remove bulb socket from housing with 1/4 counterclockwise turn then pull straight out..
test bulb and socket with 12v battery..If the bulb and socket are good move on to check for power at the electrical plug
bulb and socket are working..

2) Unplug the 6 pin plug from the rear of light housing..Using a test prob check for power.
DO NOT TURN ON LIGHTS.. activate turn signal only.. on my 2003 SL500 the signal wire is black with white stripe..
if the wire has power you have found the problem. The contacts in the housing are bad.. Now you can replace the old plug with the new wired plug.

3) with a small standard screwdriver push the female pin down and out of the electrical plug..

4) use the small plug included in repair kit to close hole in plug

5) connect power wire to new plug and attach ground wire to chassis.
activate turn signal..
install new socket in housing and you are done

Thank you so much. This helped a lot. Just wanted to add 2 things to this: 1) You push in on the 6 pin connector tab when removing it. 2) I didn't have a small enough screw driver to push the pin out. I used a cut off coat hanger wire. Small and flat and it pushed the wire right out. Thx again. $40

Thanks for posting this

I had this problem on my 2005 C230. I used the OP's troubleshooting procedure, and I have power to the white/black wire on the connector when I turn on the emergency flasher. I don't see any damage to the socket, but it appears that a defective bulb socket is the most likely cause. I don't like to "throw parts" at a problem, but I have ordered the bulb socket repair kit because I don't see any other potential cause for the problem.

I have attached the TSB for this issue in the event that anyone else needs it.
