Nobody is likely to give you a part number absent knowing the model year of your vehicle. Further, if the car is a CLocK 320, you're in the wrong sub-forum.

I always pronounced "CLK as "Click". Regardless, this wouldn't be for a CLK, either, as they did not have "hydropneumatic" suspensions. They had only traditional gas-charged shock/strut suspensions. So, maybe an E-Class? Or a CLS?

is this something that only the dealership can do or can I hire a third party to do it as mercedes dealership in my city charges $149 /hr and they are probably looking at 2.5 hours

The part number you posted is for the front right ABC strut. It has been superseded by part number A2303208813. I think your best bet is to buy an aftermarket Arnott strut and to find a new mechanic! The R230 SL never had and "airbag" suspension (known as Airmatic in BZ terms). The USA-model R230 came only with Active Body Control (ABC) which is a pressure pump driven hydraulic system.

Well, you could I guess, but what sort of warranty will it have? Arnott's is lifetime.

It seems to me the diagnosis "they" gave you may have "blown up", and you do not need a strut.

Contact Arnott with your V.I.N. and they will do a quick search to make sure you get the right part. ABC shocks are always in tight supply.

Did you put it on diagnostics and check the readings from the sensors? I think if the internal strut travel sensors are bad, you get a dash warning message. But if the external ride-height sensor is just mis-reporting because it has failed, you may not.
