Oil Filter Question

Just replaced the oil filter. New filter came with 6 O-rings. My old one had only four. Really large one under the cap, and three on the assembly (different sizes with o-ring lower on the stick getting smaller). Where two extra O-rings (one the same as the smallest size and one of the intermediate size) go? Is it possible that the same filter is used in different Benz models that require all of the O-rings in the kit?

Thats why you have a selection of o rings to cover other models .You replace what you remove from your own oil filter holder.

Dipstick has one. And seems I always have one extra o-ring...or maybe I have missed one.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
There is actually another o-ring hidden inside the filter cap where the shaft attaches. The shaft just snaps into the cap, but I'd recommend not trying to remove it because the plastic tends to be brittle and can break, then you;re buying a new filter cap/shaft assembly.

Curious now so next oil change I'll grab a flashlight and look up there again. Agree about not snapping out the shaft. I'm sure that is some of the highest quality plastic available, made to withstand temperature extremes, at least high heat, but I am always a little concerned it is going to break off, or will after 'x' number of filter changes.
