Spraying Seafoam

I'm considering spraying Seafoam to clean throttle body and intake while engine running. Where is best place to open system and spray it in? I know that it must be after the MAF. A picture would help very much. I don't know much about engines.Thank you.

My only experience with Seafoam was terrible. I used it on a boat gas tank and the result was weeks of clogged fuel filters from all the gunk the seafoam dislodged. In fairness the fuel system on your Mercedes is likely much cleaner but I'd be worried about clogged fuel injectors.
Is there a specific issue you're trying to address?

Why would you want to do this?

Oh, it's SEAfoam! I thought we were to spray STYRAfoam! Now I find out. No wonder the engine quit running...

There are very good reviews of doing this with other vehicles online. No bad reviews. I wondered what is the SL community opinion on this? Any opinion? Thanks.

I believe that it's meant to clean the intake of deposits built up in the throttle body, manifold and injectors. I was at the dealer for an oil change on my F-150 pickup and he says that Ford treats the intake this way as part of the 15k mile maintenance.

I have a 1953 flat head Ford that had weak compression in one cylinder and I added seafoam to the gas tank. The car runs smoothly now. I suspect that it freed up a sticky valve.

Mike.

Thanks so much mikefamig for staying on point and not asking another question instead of addressing my question. Jeez. I do use it in my fuel tank also. It works well there. I wonder where to spray it into my SL 500 to clean the components you mentioned? Do you know? Where would you spray it if you were doing it? Or would you not do it on an SL? I don't believe it would damage anything. I may have to reset fuel/air mixture codes though? I can do that. Thank you.

No I can't say how to treat the SL. I've heard of putting it in through the power brake vacuum line in other cars but I've also heard of it damaging O2 sensors. i won't be doing it to my cars. I'll use a little in the gas tank but I don't like the idea of pouring it directly into a good running engine.

I have heard also of using it for brakes. I wouldn't do that either. Most people say a whole can works too well in a very dirty component. It loosens too much dirt that can clog sensors and filters. Maybe I'll do as you and continue occasionally using it in the gas tank only. Thanks much.

Heaven forbid people get an idea of what it is you're actually trying to achieve before giving you awful advice. My suggestion would be for you to take your car to the MB dealership since you don't know much about engines and clearly this "getting advice on the internet" thing isn't for you either.

Good luck.
