Bluetooth Phone?

Hi everyone

OK, got my car last night and damn I love it so far

Now what I do not understand is that standard equipment on my car should have Bluetooth capabilities

When I looked in the armrest I got what is pictured below, I've seen the Bluetooth adapters, but I don't think it will work for me

Most people at the dealership have no idea as car was made before they new what an SL was

Any advise?

Thanks

What year is your car? It would help people in the forum if you put the year in your side profile.

2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
Obviously that is a cradle. Push the black pin top left and it slides out. Get a Bluetooth ‘cradle’ and slide it in instead. Unless, that is, your head unit has a built in Bluetooth function.

You need what is referred to as a dongle, try eBay for best pricing. Search Mercedes Bluetooth dongle

There is a generic Mercedes OEM Bluetooth adaptor. Search for Mercedes "UHI Bluetooth Adaptor". Remove your existing cradle and plug the adaptor in and then pair your phone. Please be aware that I think on your car it's only able to make calls etc. It will not bluetooth music.

If you go this route and buy a second hand adaptor, ensure it comes with a PIN No which you will need to pair with your phone.

Hi

OK I will look for the dongle on Ebay, now quick question in case you might know

I am gonna change my head-unit as reception is terrible and maps are outdated plus tech just not there as I took it for a weekend trip

Should I just wait till I change the head-unit or can I do both?

My plan was to get Pioneer NEX4400 as it has wireless CarPlay and turning the now cradle into wireless charging station

Thanks

Terrible reception might be a problem for which there is a fix. One thing my 2005 head unit is good at is clear reception (sure, depends on local conditions). The screen is very old fashioned, it already was when introduced. As for maps: I jumped from 2004 to 2019 maps (Western Europe) without trouble. Most folks, MB among them, told me it can’t be done and it won’t be supported. But I popped the dvd in and it works (went through four countries with it, found the tiniest mountain roads).
Having said that - I can’t say I’ve seen a solution that wouldn’t spoil my so well designed dash. Except for Seicane - a unit that disappointed many buyers technically.

if you’re replacing the headunit don’t get the Bluetooth puck. You’re new unit will have built in car audio and voice (make sure it has these features)
also make sure to get the adaptors that let you use your steering wheel functions
