Mercedes SL500 - Adding a DVD input into the TV
I am aware that you can add a DVD player into the AV1 or AV2 inputs of the SL R230 TV Tuner.
Can anyone tell me how you get the TV Tuner in order to plug in the leads.
Many thanks,
Philip

Easiest way for you to get it might be to get it from Steve (MBenzNL). You can e-mail him or his assistants at steve@mbenznl.com ... he should have all the parts necessary to retrofit it to your car. He was in the UK less than 2 weeks ago doing installations. He's now on the east coast of the USA doing the same thing.

Steve also has a similar 1-input-only device.

Steve has one that is only PAL (right now) and some NTSC ones coming. But I don't see the big deal, I haven't bought a DVD player in probably 2 years that wasn't switchable, and trust me, I've bought quite a few.

you need to have a TV tuner to start with.
Adjacent to the Cd Changer, there is a quarter panel which extends from the door to the rear. Remove this panel, starting at the door trim, then pull it straight out.
The TV tuner will then be visible. There are two sets of AV inputs.AV I is to the front, and AV2 is to the rear of the car.
Low cost way is to buy a portable DVD player(without screen) and take the Video/audio output lead, and plug into AV1.
Turn on DVD player, select AV1 on command from menu and you have done the job.
If you wish to go the whole hog, you can buy a 6 disc player /changer and mount this behind the CD changer, with a remote sensor eye for the remote control mounted on the dashboard.

The tuner is in the back of the car? I thought it was stacked behind the COMAND unit in the dash? Tony we don't get the tuner option here in the States.
Does a NTSC/PAL DVD player convert NTSC source DVD's to a PAL output?

Please find attached a photo of the TV Tuner Inputs at the rear of the car and a photo of the Portable DVD Player playing a movie.
I am very pleased as I can now watch DVD's in the Car.
