Good info on top lock replacement
I've been drilling down in www.alldatadiy.com - it's $30 to join, & they have specific info on everything Mercedes.
I'm in the SL-Class (R230) forum - and found detailed info on the top liner removal & hydraulic cylinder replacement.
The system is co complicated, I decided to just catch the leak in towels, & operate the unlock with the system.
There's a 7 minute hold on the top "intermediate" position, and, 7 more minutes each time you pull the top switch !!!
I think I can let it close after I get the liner off, & take my time replacing the cylinder from Top Hydraulics - they
have a system that allows you to replace the cylinder up front without cutting any lines.
Whattya know, I can post a screenie from their site...
Here's their version of the official roof support that White Spyder made - I made them too, but wonder what happens if I keep the roof from closing...
Anyway, if anyone else is working this problem - it would be worth a look...

WIS = Workstation Information System, which is MBZ's official electronic shop manual system for all of their modern vehicles. You can buy a copy of it on eBay for under $30. Alldiydata appears to just be hosting it and allowing access for a fee.

Now I get it !!! Already paid Alldiydata... Anyway, Klaus at Top Hydraulics was talking about manual opening of the top, which I couldn't find anywhere...
They provide a replacement cylinder with tabs to hold in the hydraulic connectors. You buzz out the old connectors with a Dremel tool which are "staked" in...
Finally found the trunk lid latch (6mm) to manually open top - on each side in trunk, under plastic caps... so, now I'll try manual method, without the hydraulic system...
Details coming...
