Question Intermittent Wiper dead

Replaced my windshield, now the Intermittent wiper (1st stop) is inoperative in all situations: does not swipe when selected, when key turned on, engine starting, or wetting the rain sensor. Wipers work in other speeds. Fuse f38 OK, the reading lamps mirror lamps all work. The light sensor, also on the windshield next to the rain sensor also works.
I suspect the rain sensor is bad or the installation is bad (gel pad?). I have searched many solutions and gone through the startup calibration procedure of ignition on 5 seconds, off 5 seconds, on again, with no luck.
Any ideas?

Check the electrical connection at the sensor and make sure the sensor is securely attached to the lens. Make sure you see no bubbles or gaps on the lens when looking at it from outside, through the windshield.

According to the WIS if the windshield is changed, then the rain sensor must be initialized using a Star Diagnosis procedure which takes c. one minute to complete.

Thanks kindly, Rudeny! I will check that. I since discovered that the wipers do work on intermittent, they just don't activate until the car is in gear. That is not what guidelines describe. They operate steadily on a dry windshield so there's still a problem. I have not had time to check the sensor mounting and wiring but I'll keep you posted.

OK, that sounds like the wiring to the sensor is not plugged in (or broken). When there is no signal from the rain sensor, the wiper defaults back to a speed-sensitive intermittent wipe.

The light sensor, which is part of the assembly and using the same connector, works, so it sounds like a continuity problem or controller, right? Any other ideas on how to test it?

Does this mean that I can disconnect the sensor and have the normal intermittent wipers?
I’m just not sure I like that rain sensing feature. Most of the time it operates way to fast.

Yes, but it's worse than the sensor - it's intermittent, but at a variable rate based on vehicle speed. I do wish MBZ had put a sensitivity adjustment on the rain sensor like some other cars have.
