If you want your beep back you probably have to repair the siren, which is located in the left front wheel well. There’s ample info on the forum.

I don't believe there should be a chirp when an '05 U.S. car is locked. I believe this feature was introduced to the U.S. market in MY2007.

I've owned several early cars, and upon locking none of them chirped. However, when I installed a used siren from an '07 into one of those cars it then chirped. The obvious implication to me is that whether or not locking is accompanied by a chirp is entirely dependent upon the siren.

Change to ROW in STAR and it'll chirp. You can change pitch and volume as well, iirc.

Upon reflection, I think this logic is perfectly sound. But I also think the conclusion has to be incorrect.

I suppose I'm not the only member reading this who has no idea what "ROW" is and what it should be set to in order to achieve the goal. I presume it is a binary choice of a parameter somewhere in the development menus of the Driver SAM and it's all auf Deutsch.

My 2005 SL600 has the factory chirp when locked.

Doesn't appear the chirp can be set from dash settings in my car .

I do not know.

After doing a bit of investigating I am back to this conclusion:

There is a single wire between the driver SAM and the horn which transmits data. When the car is locked the SAM transmits that status, whether or not the siren chirps is dependent upon the version of the siren.

The 2005 owner's manual is pretty detailed about what happens when the car is locked, and it mentions nothing about chirps or other audible feedback:

All turn signals flash three times. The locking knobs in the doors move down. The anti-theft alarm system is armed.

I can't remember exactly, been a few months since I used my STAR diag. I found out how to do it through a post on this forum, though.

Thanx

Thanx
I don't have a star, but I fo have a Foxwell NT530.
Guess I'll poke around with that.
If not I'll just keep turning around to see if it locked and my life will go on.......
Thanx for the input.

Is your alarm siren working at all? Can you provoke the burglary alarm to test it? And I humbly repeat my suggestions in #2 and #3.

I may have located the setting.

From the instrument cluster main menu in Star Diagnosis go: Control unit adaptations > National variant coding and from there you can choose Rest of world.

Since you do not have Star Diagnosis, I think if you get a siren from an '07 or newer car you will be fine.

Curiously, in stating that the only feedback when locking is the lights the WIS mentions that The Netherlands is an exception by additionally having the audible sound.

Fuse

Fuse good so I'm thinking either defective siren or audible disabled in programming.
thanx to fredrick nl for suggestions.....

Star-fighter, some folks pull the siren fuse, when it starts playing up due to internal faults. Those are a result of the internal batteries leaking on its pcb. Cleaning the board and replacing the batteries often cures that problem (in mine it did). Point in case: you might have overlooked an empty fuse socket.
Here’s my chirp on video, with an added bonus: folding mirrors. (They unfold upon opening a door, not shown here).

Edit: can’t upload .mov file, why?

Since the Panic button works, I think the sire is probably fine.
