How to loop back the ABC pump for coilover conversion?
It seems looping back would be easier than replacing the whole tandem pump with power steering only pump. I see instructions on looping back other Mercedes cars but can't find anything for R230 (pre-facelift early models). I see one connection from PS reservoir and next to it one outgoing connection which I assume is for PS.
On the ABC side there is reservoir feed, and 2 connections at the bottom - one going towards under the radiator where it splits in a block into 2 hoses. The other bottom connection has a pulsation dumper tube (not to be confused with the spherical pulsation dampers near the wheels) with banjo connections on them. Now how to take those 2 (or 3 if looking after the split under radiator) and feed them back into the reservoir? Or what exactly is the best loopback process? Has anyone got a description exactly of what each in/out hose of the tandem pump is for, and possibly which of them go into some normally closed valves so we don't have to worry about them? Thanks!

its on a W215 but shows you the idea

Thanks @pmercury, it is an excellent description which I have been studying, but I just can't map it easily into the R230, The return path with/without the ABC radiator and into the reservoir and back into the pump is straightforward.
But I'm totally confused where the W215 has only one connection in addition to the reservoir and the R230 has 2 - one going forward and splitting into 2 more, and one going to the back of the car through the cylindrical damper which is attached to the pump...

mmmmm if its a tandem pump you just eliminate the two hoses to steering
then you should have only two left
It was so long ago but I remember that just following the hoses was enough to figure out never had a picture other then I showed there

Thank, but unless I'm looking at something wrong, I see 5 hoses (2 for PS and 3 for ABC), so that's why I'm confused :-(

so
power steering return hose 58
power steering in hose 30i
ABC out double hose 59 (that's why you see 3 hoses maybe)
ABC return hose 58

@pmercury, thank!!!, you are right, I was seeing it wrong, there are only 4 holes into the tandem pump and they just split and route after that. I have a SL500 (the pump photo above is from SL600) and part of my confusion was that where the ABC pressure lines 59 in the picture (and in other ABC pump pictures) go forward, in my SL500 there is a dumper there and a hose pointing to the back of the car. Thanks again.

ABC confusion
so I know George used his method but if I want to do Pmercury method what do I need to do as my abc pump is relatively new but will convert to PS pump only! HELP lift my fog!!
thanks!!

so ok now I understand my misconception.. I was looking at the 215 loop around which made no sense as I am working on 230 like George!!

this means you keep your dual pump that does steering and ABC
you loop the ABC part you don't need for coilovers
bow if you want to swap the dual pump with a steering only pump you don't need to loop
just connect the steering and remove the whole ABC stuff
or didn't I get it ?

also what’s your suggestion for an inexpensive scanner that can erase codes??
thx

also, for the first price scanner to erase codes and some other things, this one:
