SL/R230: MERCEDES SL500 ETC MODULE PROGRAMMING

MERCEDES SL500 ETC MODULE PROGRAMMING
hi there I was wondering how to program with DAS the ETC module on this car? ? I thought I had a bad ETC module (due to transmission leaks) so I replaced it with another one but the problem ie limp mode still ensues
sometimes I don't even see PRND letters on the instrument cluster anymore the car just drives in either First or Second gear. check engine light comes and off the error code being "generic transmission malfunction ..."
has anyone experienced this issue with their SL ?

don't mix up Programming and SCN coding
So when you say "I replaced", what did you do ? where did you get the replacement module from and was it virginized ?

There is no SCN coding to be done. Nor is their programming of any kind apart from storing the vehicle VIN in the transmission ECU.
I believe the problem with not seeing the gear position in the cluster has nothing to do with the transmission ECU because that status comes from the shifter. You really need a diagnostic tool to see what's going on. The Foxwell NT510 Elite can probably do this, and of course, Star Diagnosis can.

Foxwell NT510 Elite can not do this

This is immaterial, since he has the transmission ECU that is original to his car. Also, he has issues that do not relate to the transmission ECU.
I'd read diagnostic codes from all controllers with a focus on the transmission ECU, the instrument cluster, and the shifter.. The iCarsoft products can do this, and so can the Foxwell N510 Ellite (which I know little about other than it can perform an ABC Rodeo routine).

anyway he seems not to be in a emergency
iCarsoft products and Foxwell N510 Ellite can only read / delete codes and execute a limited of amount of settings

The Foxwell seems to have much if not most of the capabilities of Star Diagnosis vis-a-vis what a typical DIYer needs from a system. But I've never used one and am only going by what a member on this forum wrote about it. One downside, of course, is its small screen.

You can take any used transmission ECU from an '03 or '04 car and make it work in another vehicle of the same model year using a $300 Chinese-cloned Star Diagnosis system by simply downloading the proper VIN to the controller.

as long as you can trust that member's words it's fine, but if that member never had a "real" full genuine system in his hands and driven by hate, then you have a problem
Have a nice weekend

does that sound about right?
now every time I start the car I hear a MONSTER TRUCK sound but it's shifting well after I just did that little "programming" which was basically setting up and registering the VIN in the system

I just bought one on eBay. exact same numbers plugged the new one in .... easy install. at first it was promising but then stated to do exactly that. I just thought I should replace that because of all the transmission oil leaks.
