Disconnected Roof tube, pls help

Hi all,
I removed my spare wheel last night and I must have done something to the roof connections. I have a 2009 SL550.
This morning I lowered the roof and drove to work and I could smell something like wires burning. Now the roof won't close. Windows go down, I can hear the motor running but roof won't budge. Also the trunk won't open automatically, I have to push it up.

I removed the spare wheel again and saw that a transparent tube on the right side, close the the battery, is connected at the top of the battery but not at the bottom. (see picture). Can someone tell me where I need to plug this in and if this is likely the cause of the top and trunk not working. As the top is down I can't really see where the tube goes, it's a tight fit.

Thanks

That is a vent tube, that is supposed to pass through a small hole in the bottom, close to the battery.

Thank you, I found the hole and connected it back.
Now I need to figure out what could cause the malfunction. I'll scour the forums a bit more. I noticed that the fluid on the left hand side is at half point.

Do you think that burning smell and the roof not coming up are directly related? You were driving topless, do you know that smell actually came from within the car? The smell of something scorching in an R230 puts up a red flag for some of us here: an electric component called Battery Control Module in some cases scorched and even ruined cars. It sits behind the trunk liner, under the tank filler tube, on the wheel well. If your trunk really smells like something’s (been) scorching, disconnect the rear battery first and then disconnect the front battery.

I did read about the Battery Control module fire and freaked out a bit but it's not that. The smell was definitely coming from the trunk but not from that area. I put the tube back to the floor and then drove back home and there was no longer a smell. The roof is still not working though

Well, if you think your battery stinks, that would be something to look into. If the hydraulic pump stinks, I guess it’s housing would be too hot to touch.
A roof not working while the pump is running can indicate a leaking cylinder, internally (no fluid loss) or externally (fluid loss). But it seems your problem has come up too sudden.

We need someone more knowledgeable to chime in on all this.

I noticed you opened a 2nd thread. If the pump is NOT running you’ve got another problem, probably electric. First of all, the car wants the trunk to be locked before the roof operates. I think the display would tell you to close the trunk, but it wouldn’t hurt checking if the red light in your door is lit (trunk open).

I opened a second thread as the one we're on was for the tube of the battery which I thought was the cause of the roof not closing but thanks to the thread's help, I fixed that. So now I am focusing on the other thread which is dealing with the roof. And the light for the trunk doesn't come up. The trunk closes properly.
