2005 SL600 & Sirius Satellite Radio

I am anxiously awaiting the delivery of my new 2005 SL600, expected to arrive first 10 days of September. I went with black exterior, beige interior, sport package and keyless go. My question is if anyone is familiar with the "SIRIUS Satellite Radio" option. I understand the car is prewired for it, but I believe a separate antenna is required. Anyone have any information on this? Thanks for any help.

You will not like where the antenna is install. It lays across the dash. The dealer told me to wait until there is a new antenna solution.

triggerfink, I’ve been wanting to get Sirius radio for my 04 SL600 but the recommended location for the antenna is over a hole drilled in the trunk lid. Did they change it for 05 so it’s over the dash?

I've not heard of the antenna being on the dash. I was at the dealer last week and the service advisor told me that it's still mounted on the trunk and they won't install it anywhere else. If I wanted a different location, he said he can install the kit and leave the antenna out. But, I will have to go to an outside installer to have the antenna installed elsewhere in the car.

I had the dealer install everything but antenna. Then I had an car audio shop install a small Terk antenna under the hood in the vent by the front window. Works great, no holes, out of sight. Call around to some of the high end car audio shops in your area or even ask the dealer to recommend a good audio shop. The antenna may be for XM but it works for Sirius also.

Mattnaz, I mentioned your solution to my local dealer and they warned me that the antenna Mercedes provides uses a proprietary connector. Did your audio shop have to splice that connector onto the aftermarket antenna?

I have no idea. It works good, sounds better than my other car, and the MB dealer is now sending everyone to him that does not want antenna on the trunk.

mattnaz,

Please post a picture of your installation when you get the chance-- that is where I want to put my antenna. What is the model number of the Terk?

JackStraw,

The antenna will not show up as it is a small black wire and the grill is black. I don't have the model number. You can call Signature Audio at 480-922-8180 in Scottsdale, AZ and they could answer all of your questions. I will be at the shop in a couple of weeks and can get some more info if you need it.

I just installed one in my Sl500, you need the Terk SIR-MINI and the Terk SIR-SIP adapter. It works great in the drivers side washer nozzle tray under the grill. The first MB receiver although was defective. They got a signal, but no audio. They replaced it and voila! Sweet audio from space!

Use a Terk SIP-MINI in the tray by the wahser nozzle, drivers side under the grill. Works great! I have it in my SL500. You will also need the Terk SIR-SIP adapter.

Sl500z- Would you please post a picture of your antenna installation? It would be helpful to see the antenna placement and the path of the wiring.

Would love to get the information on the Sirus anatenna. The XM antenna is really small but I am told it does not work on Sirus. The antenna the MB gives you is huge but I found a small one, slightly larger than the XM, maybe about a 1.5 inch square but it is for Sirus. I was told all the wiring was in the back so the antenna had to go in the back. They were looking on the back flat area as an alternative place. How did your guy get the antenna to the front as I am not sure there are extentions? Please let me know what you did. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
