i tried to find it again...unsuccessfully. I have a 2005 with the same problem. I remember there was something about the removal that made me leery about doing it myself. Sorry, I just can't remember what it was...of course, I'm not that talented to begin with!

2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
Using it’s control, you move the head restraint all the way up. Then just pull it out of the seat.

I wouldn't just pull the headrest out...see photo at this link.

https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...k-removal.html

I can't find an exact match for the sl500/r230, but there are lots of videos showing different mb models and seat back removal/seat removal/leather repair, etc. Several of the videos mention the similarity and how many mb use same procedure to remove seat backs.

screws and plastic clips; be gentle and good luck!

I have a 06 SL500. Lift it with the motor to the max and then you have to pull very hard (with the top down). Nothing will break.

Same on my 2005 SL600. Pulled mine yesterday, a flap of the leather cover that tucks in to the underside was loose, and it's a little tricky to properly re-insert.

Anyway, yeah, raise all the way up, drop the convertible top, then pull up pretty hard. I stood with one foot on the base of the seat, and one on the middle of the parcel shelf. Bare feet to make sure to not damage any leather
