Peter/PMercury was kind enough to activate this feature on my 09 SL550. It is a different program in transmission, somewhere between comfort and sport, a bit closer to sport mode. Now I can switch between four modes: C, M, S, and A. In A mode, shifting is faster than in C, stays longer in gears. More dynamic in city driving than C but not as harsh as in S. It took 15 minutes for Peter to code this in, so he is a Real Pro in it!!!

Sounds interesting, but any more details ?
is this a MB option that you have activated ?
Or is it a custom transmission shift program you have added ?
how do you select between the modes ( still the C / S button ? ) does a different mode appear indication on the display ?
thanks.

Just to clarify - is the memory setting option deleted permanently, or this is the usual memory flush? Because i do reset myself every now and then, i'm interested in the permanent removal of the function so it does not go into the "granny" mode after mild driving.

Ghosty, I totally agree with you that it would be great to permanently remove that feature in transmission that constantly learns new driving dynamics and eventually getting into what you describe as “granny” mode. If we all could ask Peter to invest his time in finding out how to remove this feature it would be absolutely great. If he cannot do it, then no one can As for A mode, once Peter enabled it on my car, I use it all the time. It’s very useful in daily driving. Not as slow as in C mode but also not as harsh as in S mode.

I'd imagine this 'A' setting may depend on the gearbox in the R230, is yours is the 7 speed one ? Ive got the Sl55 - 5 speed version and the difference between C and S is S starts in 1st and revs higher before changing gear, but its not a big difference. So unless I'm not understanding
how it works I don't quite get the advantage of an intermediate setting.

Isn't that the adaptive throttle mapping, rather than the gearbox settings themselves ? And yes, no one wants granny setting mode !

I'm not sure about adaptive throttle mapping, but i was explained as this being a TCU mode / module / setting. There definitely is a way to erase it completely and i bet many professional shops that offer ECU / TCU tuning can solve the problem for us. The difference will obviously be the price.
I have the 7 speed transmission. The AMG models have an updated TCU that allows shifting 30% faster (at least that's what they claim) vs the regular non AMG models. Also from what i know AMG did not switch to 7 (or 9) speed transmission until way later, close to 2010, or even later, have to double check. So the driving style will be different from the start, with the 5 speed having longer gears vs the 7 speed.
For me the biggest drawback of these cars is exactly the "granny" mode. And yes, i can reset that every week/month or as needed but i don't want to abuse the system. After all it was intended to work as is, but it kills all the driving experience. I even added a Sprint booster to the car, but the transmission is still the weakest point.

sprintbooster is a gadget (in fact a sort of scam to me)
get the taste of a real remap tune, but not a remap tune
It might impress on some cars but all it does is boosting a curve by voltage increase, these are included in a real tune
if you want big performance change, send the unit out for remapping
but they did a good job sending them out for free to get reviews
Agility mode is Mode, as said before, to get a mode with the best out of C and S

Sprintboost is not a tune that gives you boost in hp by no means. All it does - improves throttle response. It does make the car feel more alive.
One downside that I kinda see it coming is that with that kind of improvement of throttle response the engine mounts take a bigger load from start if set to sport mode 9. It might put a bigger wear on them. Don't think it's going to be critical, especially how much I drive, but still
Now on the tune part - yes, that's a whole different story. Any way around there is no tune for $300 that will give any kind of performance improvement, especially on a naturally aspirated engine.
I would say even the service that you offer will cost me more than that just because I don't have any of the required software. I'm still on the fence with buying the SDS thing solely due to the reason that I have many friends with high end software that can perform all the service that I need on the car. That makes no point for me to invest $1k in something that I don't really need now.
Again, that's my point of view and my situation. But as a car enthusiast I'm always down for something that would improve the driving experience
Regards

You are far away from reality when you mention 1k
That lie has been spread by a troll
Having friends with high end software is one thing, knowledge is another
You know what ? ask your friend with the "high end" software to hook it up and give me team viewer, ill add you Agility mode so you review it

Lol, you just dont know when to stop, do you?
What's your estimate then on the software required and the service fee for all these mods? Surprise me.
And as I said, I'm not interested at the moment. I don't need to upload this mode just to prove you right. Why am I supposed to bother my friends?
That's exactly why Rodeney left this forum. You try to prove everyone wrong and you're always right. I won't reply to this thread any more. Bye.
