SL/R230: V4 AGM Battery Upgrade/Replacement

Searched for one in 2019 when I replaced my starter battery and there wasn't a direct-fit AGM option available. I don't believe anything has come to market since.
Your options (either are fine, just go with whichever is available and/or on sale):
https://www.autozone.com/batteries-s...cca/490541_0_0
https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...ar%20batteries
Frankly, this isn't an area where an upgrade over factory is needed. The consumer battery, however, should be upgraded.

Rarely from the factory, which is my point.
Considering the drain from inactivity on the accessory side (R230s being largely seasonal cars), the most robust AGM should be used.
The starter battery, being independent and with a single function, can handle extended periods of sitting w/o a concern about drain.

The consumer battery from the factory was always AGM. Upgrades to it may not be possible due to size restrictions. The starter battery is an ordinary flooded type that literally only has to start the car. The factory fitted one is well up to the job. Also the start battery is a very odd size. I struggled to find an aftermarket one that would give any advantage in price or performance. The dealer price was similar to those listed above. Incidentally the one I replaced was 15 years old and still working fine. I just felt it had done its time🙂

I'll need to double check the date on mine to determine if it is original to the car, but it is an OE Mercedes battery (non-spillable lead acid w/ a vent tube, which is something that AGMs rarely, if ever, use in practice).
