Dumb parktronic question
Trying to get everything sorted out on this 8 owner 03 sl55. The park sensor off button is present next to the gear lever (no light comes on when I push the button), does that mean it has the parktronic option or was that standard on all sl’s?
it has an aftermarket parking module and sensors on the rear bumper but a non-parktronic bumper on the front
As always, thanks!

Only parktronic equipped cars would have come with the switch, but they would have come with the front and rear sensors and the rear display (I believe that all clocks have the front display built in, parktronic or not). You can check your options on lastvin.com, but most likely the front bumper was replaced with a non-parktronic bumper. The only difference is in the impact strips, so it shouldn't be all that hard to restore the parktronic if you want to.

Sounds like someone must have replaced the console cover and left the switch in or they were starting to retrofit the parktronic. There may have been an option package that included both options, but you can at least get the bi-xenon lights without parktronic (not 100% sure about the other way around).

So, in theory (I will dig in to make sure what is or is not there), I could get:
1) Parktronic module
2) Parktronic harness/sensors for front & rear
3) Parktronic bumper covers
4) Turn on Parktronic feature through the MB Software
And have the parktronic system 'close' to factory?

Pretty much. I did double check and the clock is different for parktronic. I think they used the same lcd because you can see the parktronic display on a standard clock, but it shows a different part number. Also, you would need the rear display/buzzer and the trim piece over the rear speakers is different to accept the display. So at a minimum: 10 sensors, module, front and rear displays, rear speaker trim, front and rear bumper wiring, bumper impact strips, painting the sensors and strips to match the bumpers. On the plus side, you already have the button. The parktronic in these is pretty much independent and my guess is that it would work even without coding.

One addition, you would also need the parktronic main wiring harness. Probably won't find it used because nobody is going to go to the work to pull it out. Good news is that it is available and only around $130 from the discounters. P/N 230 540 46 33.

The rear display is poorly placed, hidden behind the draft stop. The alarm works very well, so practically speaking you might just as
well skip replacing the rear panel and still have an adequate system.
